perma-guard is an all natural flea and tick powder that you rub on your dog. if there are ticks and fleas, they eat the powder and die. as a result they just fall off and are dehydrated. since it is all natural there is no worry if the dog eats it accidently. at first i thought it was a gimmick. but it really works. my dog has been flea and tick free..

I bought a new product today at our pet store called Rid A Tick

www.rid-a-tick.com

Can be used on humans besides pets. It is adhesive disks that you apply over the tick, which smothers them and removes the tick/ versus using tweezers. The blood transfer is contained with encapsulation and then it can be taken to a doctor for analysis of the tick type or Lyme disease.

I got these for my mother in law who lives in a heavily wooded tick infested area and she has 2 dogs. I don't dare sit on her fabric covered furniture when I visit because the dogs bring in ticks and then lay on the furniture(I prefer the wood chairs). My sister in law got a tick in her back end after sitting on the sofa.

Just recently, others have mentioned that they use the Frontline Plus every month for fleas. My vet told me every 3 months. The web site says it can be used every month if there is a heavy infestation of fleas around.

I am going to ask him again next time I see him in September. With My last Pem I never used Flea treatment and she never had fleas, but with Cody, I take him to Doggy Day care once in awhile and he needs that protection.

What is everyone else doing?...applying it every one month or three months?

I used advantage on Chip about 3 weeks ago and the fleas came back so I have switched to Frontline Plus. The Vet said it can be applied after 2 - 3 weeks of using Advantage but I am a little leery so I haven't used it yet on chip. I gave him a bath last night and dosed my other 3 dogs with Frontline plus and Chip wasn't itching this morning so I have my fingers crossed. I only found 1 or 2 fleas on him last night when I bathed him but they make him miserable. The vet said fleas are really bad this year. I only use it when they have evidence of fleas because I am afraid it will build up in their system. They normally don't have fleas either but Chip is going to Obedience Class so he really needs the protection too.

Those darn fleas and the poor dogs can't pull them off themselves. At least with mosquitos, we can swat them.

there is a vet that writes a column(which appears in our newspaper), and takes questions from readers and a question was posted to him regarding using Brewers yeast and its effectivness at getting rid of fleas.

He referred to a comment made by a Vet from a leading university vet school and the guy said that it makes no sense, because Brewers yeast is used in labs to grow fleas.

I thought that it was maybe the garlic in those Garlic and Brewers Yeast tabs that were supposed to help keep fleas off, or is this just one of those fads?

According to the ads here for the tablets - "the Yeast provides a rich source of B-Vitamins which keeps the fleas at bay, and the Garlic is a natural detoxifier."

I used to give them to my GSD and the cats, but as they also had the flea treatments don't really know if the tabs had any effect.

These fleas are driving me and Chip crazy. They must love him because he is so spoiled. LOL. I finally got up my courage and applied the Frontline now we will have to wait and see. Tennessee fleas are tough. Alot worse than the NY ones. Seriously, I think they get immune to this stuff. Poor Chip.

Tick warning......The ticks in this area have been returning after a summer of virtually none. I live on the coast of Mass. by the NH border.

hi guys,

I think we should be careful when using frontline, in this dog forum in Singapore, there was a thread stating how harmful frontline & spot on flea treatments are to our furkids. I add a table spoon of neem oil into Buta's shampoo & so far is has been great, not a single flea or tick. Neem oil smells really bad but it works great. Try to use natural remedies instead of these chemical stuff, it is really harmful.
