I have never heard of it but keep me posted if it does work. Fortunately, I haven't had to use anything for fleas or ticks for Chip yet and would love something natural instead of a chemical.

I guess I am getting back on this subject again, but does anyone recommend
any natural alternative to the flea treatment prescribed by vets(frontline) ? I just don't like the idea of these other strong chemicals being put on Cody and over time, using them over and over can't be good for our dogs.

I see that Only Natural pets has some alternatives with the shampoo and some powder stuff, or other things we can put on our pets, but just wondering if anyone has used anything else besides the frontline? I did order that natural stuff, but am thinking - what if this doesn't work?

I am with you Linda. I hate to use that frontline too. It works but I have only used it out of necessity and not on a monthly basis. Fortunately, Chip hasn't had fleas yet. Maybe someone has a good recommendation of natural stuff.

I am joining the club here. New England is the epicenter of ticks and lime disease. I did not want to use Frontline either, but Duchess gathered so many ticks I had to apply it. It has been over a month and I have had no more trouble with ticks. I will not apply any more until she absolutely needs it. The ticks seem to increase their population in cycles so maybe later in the year things will get bad again.
Let us know how the natural product works. I have not had any luck with keeping ants at bay with natural products, so I use chemicals sparingly.

we are right there with you with Ticks and lyme disease being in Wisconsin and there is West Nile Virus from Mosquitos, although they say the incidence is much lower for pets contracting it.

I honestly never treated my last pem with any flea medications and she never had fleas and I only had to remove 1 tick once in her lifetime. I guess with Cody, my vet recommended it, so I am doing it and if he is going to board at a Doggy day care situation, he should have some type of protection, but I hate all those nasty chemicals being applied to him - I would think long term, they can cause problems.

We spend so much time searching out the best food for our dogs, and yet, we apply those nasty chemicals on them.

We have a local pet store nearby that sells a lot of natural pet products. We purchased "Cloud Star Buddy Splash flea formula" - is supposed to be an all natural flea repellent - it is a leave-on conditioner/spritzer between baths. I just applied to Ellie for the first time yesterday - I'll keep you posted on how it works. I also read that you could introduce garlic or garlic supplements into their diet as a natural means of a flea repellent.

I actually bought some garlic supplements and I heard that also, but I don't
think it offers full protection. I ordered a "natural" spritz product from Only
Natural pets and I am going to try that on him. Let me know if yours works.
Thanks.

I saw some flea protection called "natural Defense" at Petsmart today - the same stuff they sell in the Only Natural Pets magazine - however, one should consult their vet before using it.

Cindy,

Thanks for the info - good site. I am going to check the ingredients on that
"natural stuff" I got. With my last Pem, she was never treated for fleas, and
she never had any. I did buy some garlic/yeast tablets for Cody.

PS. Went back and checked the ingredients for the Sentry Natural Defense flea treatment - it has, peppermint Oil, cinnamon oil, Lemon Grass oil, clove oil. thyme oil and 2-phenethyl-propionate - now I am thinking maybe I shoud not use this on Cody with my cats around.
Interesting because they make this sound so natural, yet it has warnings
labeled on the back of the box.

Smile *~* I put flea bombs in the house tonite...

*~* We decided to flea bomb the house to try and get rid of the annoying flea that were eating Midnight & Sunshine !

I took my kids to the movies...to kill time.
We saw, "Pirates Of The Carribean 2"
( Sorry.....hate to sound negative...but, this second movie was NOT as good as the first ! Boring to me...slow story line...! Just being honest...for what it's worth. )

Anyhoo...we left Midnight & Sunshine outside during the movie...and also for an extra hour after we came home and aired out the house. The fumes were still pretty potent...and they are so low to the ground......I did not want to risk them getting sick or anything.

I buy Frontline for my girls...but, due to a small budget...I could not afford to buy it for the past 3 months. I feel awful...because my girls were infested with fleas ! Now, I was able to get a whole box...which will last my two girls 3 months each. Bombing the house will help too....I know that it will !

Check out that website I posted on this thread, seems like I read adding a little garlic to their diet will help with fleas.

You can buy those tablets at the pet store and they aren't very expensive.

The thing to remember about natural and herbal means of treatment is that you are still using "chemicals." Instead of man made chemicals, these have their sources in nature. Pyrethins from Chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium and C. coccineum, for example, are an often used natural flea repellents, but can be toxic to fish. So there are always risks and warning labels are needed.
