A Xmas gift
Christmas time can be really very special:
Christmas time, mistletoe and wine, Corgis singing a Christian rhyme. With food on the table and presents under the tree, These are the things that are a joy to see. Today I drove to a Retirement Village with my youngest son, Nathan and Taylor dressed on his bow tie and cloak and me with a Santa hat on. Oh bother, I forgot Taylor's leash. So instead of driving back home, I stopped at a vet clinic that I don't go to for personal consultations but I sometimes buy things from the shop section of the clinic, and they are selling my book. I asked the Vet receptionist if I could borrow a leash and collar and she said " oh, I can do better than that" and she went to the shop section and gave me a spanking new and very appealing and classy Advance brand leash and matching collar -royal blue in colour and padded around the collar and at the handle of the leash for extra comfort. " You can have this. Don't bring it back," At the retirement village, 10 year old Nathan played several songs on the piano in the lounge, and later also in the living room of the dementia unit. Taylor and I were presented with beautifully wrapped gifts - which Taylor and I won't be opening until Christmas morning. More presents to put under the tree. We had morning tea at the Village - I had coffee and fruit mince pies and Taylor had scones. It is great when you do have a fairly slim Corgi and there are no worries about him having a couple of scones or people feeding him with titbits of food. There is a newcomer to the Dementia unit, her name is Lady Mara - a very refined lady whose husband had been knighted by the Queen (NZ has since dispensed with this kind of recognition). Lady Mara loves to dance, so when Nathan was playing one of his numbers, Lady Mara and I danced a kind of waltz. At this point in time she has lost few of her memory capabilities so I felt it was a moment that may never be repeated. Lady Mara is another of the residents who finds Taylor adorable. A visitor at the Village was thrilled to meet with Taylor and she told me that she had owned five Pems in England. She took down my phone number because she wants a Taylor-like Corgi. So someone in NZ with Pem pups for sale either now or in the very near future should contact me. |

Michael:
That is such a sweet story - thank you for sharing. My mother had alzheimers and I know she would have loved a visit from a little handsome pem. I can picture you dancing with that lady also. That is so kind and thoughtful of you. I bet she had the sweetest smile on her face and she was probably remembering younger years when life had just begun. You took her back many years and that is probably one of her best Christmas presents ever. Merry Christmas

I've worked a 'swifty' for Taylor's benrfit.
I took my youngest son shopping today for him to buy presents for the family. It finally got down to Taylor and me. So I told him not to worry about buying me a present but double what he had left and get Taylor a mirror-like metal food bowl with a rubber edging around the bottom. So Taylor gets another wrapped gift under the tree. Maybe Taylor will let me share meals out of it. Had an email today from a New Zealand author, Flora Kennedy who has written at least one book for dogs to enjoy. Yes, the one she mentioned is called Tales For Dogs (re www.amazon.com) and is recommended for readers to read out loud to their pet pooches. So here is perhaps the ultimate in presents for your Corgi - a book for dogs. And Flora's book is even cheaper to buy than my effort! Last edited by Michael Romanos; 12-23-2006 at 04:27 AM. |
