huge milestones coming up - 12-31-2006, 11:24 PM

Go Corgi is fast approaching its 20,000th post and 1000th member.

Any suggestions about what can be done to celebrate these two events when the occasions occur - apart from getting rid of me and a photo competition.

Here's one to kick off : that we look for the funniest true story involving a Corgi and a member of Go Corgi.

Now Michael - sometimes, I think you are suffering from a bad case of inferiority complex - who would we have to argue with, complain about, joke with, read poetry and amusing stories and anticipate their next post quite as much as you You are irreplaceable

As we seem to have alot of people that have rescued corgis - why don't we go with a compassionate theme or a good story on "how I rescued my corgi" and put the stories to a member vote so we all could participate in the outcome. The winner's corgi pic and summarized story could be posted on the front page as a prize.

LOL

We only want to smother you every other day, not every day. LOL

I like Bonnie's idea of the rescues.

How about we have more "emotes" too!

That would put a on everyone's face! Don't Michael! Some of us talk with our hands and feel the need to be as expressive as our corgis!

Now that GC has become such a success why not put in a good word for us to the mysterious Stephen...

I think that would be a great idea about the rescue Corgi story, and I am going to mention this and hope it doesn't get Stephen upset, but I would like to at least hear a tidbit about who his Corgi is and what he/she is like

In following Linda's idea, I'd love to see a story from Stephen on why he started GoCorgi, how it's helped him learn more about Corgis and what he thinks about the way it has evolved.

Corgi rescue stories is an ok idea BUT it is limited to the fact that most Corgi owners have not got a resued Corgi (though I have guilt feelings about a lovely natured, handsome young adult Pem that I let slip and who deserved to be 'rescued' by me, especially because he got on so well with the Corgi I then had and my Corgi didn't like many other male dogs); WHEREAS a funny story (word limited) has possibilities from EVERY Go Corgi member. We could have an independent judge for the three best efforts.

Michael:

Why can't the people that do not submit stories vote on which one is the best? That would give you more participation from everyone.

Good question, why an independent judge? Shouldn't this (or any GC contest) be about us? Our opinions? Our ideas? Our thoughts? Afterall, we are the ones on here everyday.

I guess it is because I've been active on discussion lists for so many years now that I'm rather blase about either number being a milestone. That there has never been more than 39 members signed in at once (and this was back in the days when there were only around 500 members = 8% of the membership) I'm not sure I see the need for popping champagne corks, confetti and noise makers when the 1,000 number is reached - although those would make great emoticon additions.

Because a 1000 people have bothered to become members and can filter back in whenever - because those 1000 members would have received correspondence from Go Corgi's owner/admin (such as the Happy New Year email, we haven't heard from you for awhile email). Because 20,000 posts in a short space of time is a very large volume of contact and discussion.

A fresh opinion from the sideline and from someone who knows with some expertise, a good thing when they see it, is in my opinion, more ideal than a popular vote from members who might be influenced by other members. Jo Bolten did a great job with the photo competition and I hope to get her back for the 2007 competition later in the year.

Gosh Michael - I didn't receive a Happy New Year's email Maybe we could put it to vote as how to organize our contests and see what the almost 1000 people want. I am all for democracy and the majority should rule. I don't have anything against your judge, I just thought it would be fun if all of us could participate. Sorry if I offended you.

Why not have the members vote on the funniest "true story" if that is what you want to go with. I think that even though many of us have become friends through this forum, we can surely make an impartial decision on what we would feel is the best story. I think by letting the members vote, it would get more people to participate and maybe even get those that we have not heard from in a long time become interested again.

Jo Bolten did a good job on the photo contest , but she is a professional photographer, so her expertise came in handy, however, give us some credit here, we all can have a sense of humor and it doesn't take an independent expert to decide on what would be a winner for a "funny Corgi story"

Bonnie - you never offended me. I am really looking for fun ideas not logistics.
