Formalising Corgi club
There are two others I know about who are members of Go Corgi and also members of the Wellington Welsh Corgi Walking Club which I founded some two years ago.
At our next walk through bush and forest (March 10) we will have an afternoon tea discussion on semi-formalising the club in that a president and a secretary-treasurer will be appointed. I want to have an annual family membership fee of $5. And with this money in the first year, I want to purchase a club banner so that we can 'march' in the Wellington Christmas street parade at the end of this year. It will be a lot of fun to participate and have the Corgis dressed up. It will be good promotion for Corgis. No other dog club or group is involved in the big parade. I sent this kind of message out by email to members of the WWCWC and one of the members responded by saying he could arrange a really good banner complete with pics of a Pem and a Cardi for free. Whoopee, the funds can now go to helping towards dressup costs. WWCWC is already recognised as a club by three city councils in the Wellington region and details are in their databases etc. |

After your article on internet lists replacing physical clubs and how antiquated and outdated physical clubs are, you are formally organizing the walking group into one???? My goodness! I am shocked. Is Go Corgi listed in any of the Wellington city councils' databases? Debbie

Debbie - you can't walk a Corgi on the internet and Corgis can't play together on the internet. But information sharing and club business can be conducted through this medium. All correspondence with WWCWC members is done by email and so will be any billings. I think my article says that from the internet can evolve physical clubs and the article of course supported physical dog training and sports clubs. If Go Corgi had sufficient members from New Zealand, no doubt it could be listed by appropriate organisations within the country.

Spent most of today at a dog gala where the proceeds go to blind guide dog services and Taylor was involved in agility demos. And Taylor, my wife, son and me all went for a lovely forest walk in a place called Otari-Wilton Reserve. But the great thing about today is that I 'signed' up two new members to the WWCWC. One has an overweight nine year old red and white male Pem with a handsome face and kind disposition and the other has a six year old red an white female Pem, very pretty but hampered a little with HD though her owner says she can easily tackle 45 minutes of walking.
Hey, this WWCWC could become the biggest Corgi club in New Zealand - there are four others - and all because it is for exercising Corgis and having fun and meeting monthly, not boring conformation shows and a host of petty owners. |

And I don't think any of us like being called a "petty owner". I know I sure don't. And you're right, today I don't have a sense of humor. Seems Murphy and his blasted law has set up residence in my house!! So I'm not in the mood to be insulted by being called a petty owner because I show my dogs and enjoy dog shows. Peggy

Debbie - my article on dog clubs is in recognition that at least in New Zealand (and I believe in many other countries as well), breed clubs have long since past their membership peaks unless these breed clubs have progressed with the times and brought in other activities of interest and dog sports other than recreational conformation showing.
Granted some people do not find conformation shows boring and there are people who own and handle show dogs who are as ourgoing, honest, friendly, funny, willing to freely impart advice to all, as there are people like this in say the sport of agility - but not enough people of this ilk in my opinion. |

Linda - that is one of the most classic and funniest things you have ever said. Thankyou.
Yes, Bonnie I did mean 'pretty' and I did mean 'petit.' Thankyou too. The meaning of petty: trivial, trifling, narrow minded, lack of generosity. Sounds like me. Oops. And I am a conformation show handler too. |

There are more out there than you know who are just what you describe. You just need to take the time to get to know them and not try to show off how much you know. Be willing to listen and learn too. Peggy
