My dog loved grass on a hot day. Otherwise she was perfectly fine laying on the deck, the pine needles etc. As a senior, she was a pillow animal.

I think the dogs ancestors, the wolves seem to be fine in Yellowstone park without much grass, but I could be wrong as I haven't seen the wolves there.

Cody doesn't care what his feet are planted on as long as they are taking him to something fun and interesting.

Let's see ... I have the delicate lords and ladies that touch wet grass and go ewwwww, I don't want to go out on that, but will turn around and relish a good roll and wallow in the dustiest spot they can find. There's the very femine and dainty looking girl that relishes nothing more than romping and racing through the rain and every mudpuddle she can find. Some like to lounge under the shade tree on the grass, others prefer the warmth of the concrete pad in the sun. Others like the coolness of the concrete patio that is under a shade tree. Afraid, even with the numbers here now and the volume of corgis that have passed through my doors, I can't give you a consensus Merrie.

No, I don't think they care one way or the other.

Well, most wild dogs don't live in grassy areas. Wolves live in various areas, some forest areas, some pasture/wild grass areas. Coyotes live in all types of areas, including the desert and downtown L.A.! Foxes also live in various areas, the same as coyotes.

My dogs don't seem to care if they have grass or not, and that's what I've seen of other dogs too.

I don't think of dogs as "grass animals". I think they don't care and adapt to whatever their environment is.

In my experience, dogs other than toy dogs, act very different when confronted by grass - especially long grass - than for any other material such as dirt, carpet, concrete or wood. Dogs including Corgis just adore running over large grassy areas and through long grass. That is why they are grass animals - it is not for eating but for romping in and for value in producing that little extra bit of excitement. Taylor knows great grass when he sees it and feels it. I have a near neighbour with brilliant grass on his front lawn - medium long, very green, and spongy - and does Taylor know it. He often will roll delightedly on this lawn when in the throws of walking past.

Okay, so the simple question is, do dogs like to run on grass? hmmmmm, well yes. And one of the happiest and prettiest sights I've seen is a video of a Maltese in show coat frolicking in the grass. None of mine have particularly enjoyed long grass. As for the rolling, what they seem to relish most is something dead, gross and disgusting to roll on.

Yes, and mine like to run on dirt too. Gambler my whippet, well when he wants to run, he doesn't much care what the surface is. Grass, dirt driveway, whatever. And when lure coursing, again he didn't care as long as he got to run.

My experience with the corgis is they don't care either. Although I'll admit that long grass tends to bug them a bit. Harder to see over for just running, great for playing hide and seek.

My Girls don't really get in long grass - we keep ours mowed and I don't like walking in fields that I can't see what all is in it...so I cant say how they feel about field grass.

They like walking in our yard, they love finding yucky stuff to roll in, they like a nice walk down a dirt road, they love laying on the concrete stoop or the deck to sun themselves, and they like being under a shady tree in the grass on a really hot day... guess The Girls like a little of everything.

All my Corgis have rolled in things that don't necessarliy have any smells - like long grass, spongy grass, mowed grass, soft (dry) beach sand. Thankfully no diesire to roll around on dirt, mud, soil or flower beds and plants.

I never let mine run in tall grass around here- that is the home for a million ticks. We have a lovely park close to my home, it has wooded trails, trails to a river, trails into some wetland areas, and some trails with big expansive tall field grass... and I can never go there except in winter becuase there are so many ticks that Dillon ends up COVERED in them. Now with Gus, i can't even get him vaccinated against lyme disease becuase of his autoimmune disorder so I have to be even more careful ( if that is even possible) than ever before about not letting any ticks on him....

Amen! Milo is not allowed in tall grass because of ticks. I HATE TICKS. They freak me out and are so gross. I hate bugs in general and really hate bugs that want to inhabit my Milo. Ugh.

Sorry to hear about all the ticks in long grass in the USA. Watching your Corgi running and romping and iumping and playing and rolling around in long grass is one of life's pleasures.

Buta hates long grass & any length of wet grass. She refuses to go near them & will do a detour
