definition of terms?

We all know what IMO and IMHO mean. We have seen these quite a few times, but are there other people like me who wonder what some of these shortcuts mean? Are these called Acronyms? Can someone put a list together of the common ones? I often find people referring to a breed of dog such as (JRT) Jack Russel Terrier but some of them I can't seem to get my mind around.
Maybe it is the people who use computers a lot who are more familiar with these shortcuts. Have some pity on me and explain their meanings.

Here's an online dictionary for all "netspeak" acronyms, as well as smileys or technical terms you may hear anyone use!

NetSpeak - The ultimate internet acronym dictionary

Not sure if there's a similar resource out there for dog love Internet jargon, but I just learned that GSD stands for German Shepherd Dog

Jane, here is a site with a few.

That's an understatement - here is a site with a lot of acronyms that you will frequently stumble across. Just start to scroll down...

But be warned - many of them are not for those who don't like bad language. Scroll at your own risk....

Thanks for the websites. I will check them out.

GSD stands for German Shepherd Dog
that is one I had trouble with.

This is a very easy one to use - and if you want to quickly search for a translation, just click on the appropriate letter in the Alphabet on the Home Page.

Here are a few I might throw around (and I do try to use the translation somewhere in the post before I use them).

MSN - Mandatory Spay Neuter
BSL - Breed Specific Legislation

ACD - Australian Cattle Dog
BC - Border Collie
JRT - Jack Russell Terrier
PRT - Parson Russell Terrier
PWC - Pembroke Welsh Corgi
CWC - Cardigan Welsh Corgi

Hope these help too.

Yes this is the kind of list that I need. It is specific to animal terms. Ones that would be used on this website. If there was a link to such a list it would make finding the definition easier for me at least.
The other websites are great but not for easily finding the meaning for say, MSN or BSL.

It would be a good idea to compile a list and make it a sticky on here for reference.

If it is made a "sticky" could people add to it? I don't know what the term sticky means either.

Yah we should make a sticky where it can be edited and added to.

A sticky is a document that stands out as the first post in a thread's section that is usually a different color or has a symbol next to it so everyone has easy access to it.

I also have a bird forum I visit too and my head starts to hurt with some of the acronyms bandied about there!
