A Crew of anything
New Zealand is going to have a new soccer team in the seasonal Australian professional soccer league competition. The franchise team will be based in Wellington and is seeking a name. The two previous NZ soccer teams in the Australian league were based in Auckland and named the Kingz and the Knights. What should the Wellington based team be called? Well one of the most popular suggested names is: Wellington Crew.
No I never put forward this suggestion. It is reserved for Corgis as far as I am concerned. But I have suggested the Cyclones. Wellington is a noted windy area, subject to gales, and is also notable for earthquakes. The rugby team from here in the Super 14 ( Australia, NZ and South Africa) is called the Hurricanes, the netball team from these parts in the NZ netball league is called the Shakers. So Hurricanes, Shakers and Cyclones. Got a pattern to it, don't you think. But Crew. No, not really.
