ANZAC Day
Tomorrow (Wednesday) is ANZAC Day in New Zealand and Australia. It is a public holiday and it is in remembrence of those who gave their lives and their best years in war conflicts - especially the first world war and especially on the shores and hills of part of Turkey but also the Boer War (in South Africa), the Second World War, Korea, Vietnam and Afghanistan.
My wife and I and my youngest son are getting up at 5am tomorrow and attending the Dawn Parade and then enjoying a laid-on breakfast at the Cosmopolitan/Returned Sevicemen Association club in Upper Hutt. Thousands of people throughout NZ - including many, many young people will be doing the same. |
