New company for Taylor
Got a job for how ever long. I am assigned from today, to take a six month old black Labrador named Nina for an hour long walk at least three times a week whilst her owners are at work. So Taylor, who already has told Nina he doesn't like her trying to play with him so early in their relationship, will have good company on some of his daily walks, though I don't intend at this stage to let a pup who has not established a acquaintanceship with me, off her leash.

Today was the third succesive day Taylor and me walked Nina so I took the plunge and let her off the leash at a large park with a beautiful stream. I also had a plastic envelope with pieces of treats. Anything could have happened - well Nina had a ball and returned back to me and sat still whenever I called her. It was a piece of cake. She expertly fetched sticks and laid them down in front of me for a rethrow, and she splashed around in the stream and went joyishly for swims as only a Lab can. And she got Taylor involved.

Good to hear that it's turning out well (so far) as taking another person's dog on can be a bit daunting. Like looking after someone's kid who you don't know very well - you never know what will push behaviour buttons.

I actually took Taylor to Harcourt's Park on Friday after dropping my son Nathan and two others school pupils at a special philosopy class held at the Maoribank Primary School.
I must tell you this, Nathan who is 10, is one of 14 students in the Hutt Valley selected for special three hour lessons over the next seven Fridays due to his ability to think laterally. His big brother was brainy/clever and has wasted most of his talents to date, so I hope Nathan will be more circumspect. I have my doubts. But he is going to try out junior handlers in agility with Taylor with training starting later this month and he promises to go back to piano lessons in attending intermediate school next year. |
