Rugby World Cup - 09-07-2007, 05:53 PM

Is any other Go Corgi member following the Rugby World Cup that started in France yesterday.
The event is said to be the world's third biggest more viewed sporting event ( after the Soccer World Cup and the Olympics). I saw the opening ceremony and the first match this morning (New Zealand time) and the host nation, France got beaten by Argentina. New Zealand (All Blacks) play Italy in their first up match later today.

While NZ swamped sipposedly strong Italy 76-14, England could only beat the USA 28-10 which in some ways is like a victory to the USA. No couintry in the world has more rugby players than does England.

My Husband Played Rugby & Football (american) in College. His favorite team is New Zealand. He loves the OLN network, because they show alot of the games.

Good on your hubbie. You can tell him that the last All Black I interviewed for a magazine article was the immediate past All Black captain, Tana Umaga - who made himself unavailable for the 2007 world cup. I also have interviewed Jerry Collins a couple of times and he is one of the stars of the NZ team in France - scored a cracking try against Italy. Jerry is one of the best ever blindside flankers from NZ.

My husband thinks that is awesome ... He has always wanted to take a trip to NZ to see them play. He told me to tell you that he played outside headlock (I thnk that is what he said). He tries to explain to me the game when it is on the OLN network, but my head only has room for only so many sports ...

Rugby is the world's most complex sport to play - even more so than cricket.
Some tricky current rules are being revised and will change globally not long after this World Cup. If we had a more simplified game it would be so much better - easier to play, and understand by most spectactors. The position you described does not exist but I guess your lovely husband was a flanker. which was one of the positions I played before becoming a wing threequarter (after I had gotten contact lenses and could see a lot more clearly).

If only I could sing like a Welshman. The Welsh will sing the Aussies and others off the park but they may not/won't win on the scoreboard.
I did stay up til 3am this morning to watch the All Blacks play Portugal (NZ won 108-13) and the subsequent Australia- Wales match. Wales never looked like winning even though Australia were below par. Wales should have a Corgi as their mascot. I would write a very well consructed letter to whoever could be a catalyst to change the dreadful leek and the mythical red dragon to the beautiful and much more appropriate Corgi as Wales rugby symbol. And then Wales could beat England more often!!!!
