Last week I brought Taylor a maxi size new sheep skin wool rug to go over his mattess, and he loves it. It's one of those pure white, richly thick and uncrinkled sheep rugs that NZ is famous for.

Duchess has been sleeping downstairs on a hard concrete floor. Part of the reason has been the heat of our summer. She doesn't want any rug or pillow to sleep on to cushion her bones. I wanted to buy her a nice fleece or a soft bed of some kind. Even in the winter I have tried to get her to lay on a cushion, I get her on it but she walks away and lies on the floor.
Last summer she would sleep downstairs only on the hottest days but this year her habit is to spend more and more time down there.
Michael I envy you being able to "spoil" Taylor with a sheep skin, I want to "spoil" Duchess with a little luxury but she won't have it.

It is more than anything else, what a dog has gotten use to. If Duchiess was use to sleeping on your bed, the summer heat wouldn't stop her from jumping up on the bed nightly.
With sheep skin wool rugs they are very warm in winter - and very good if your Corgi suffers from arthritis - and cool in the warmer periods of the year.
Perhaps you can try this - comfort by degrees. First just put down a sheet over the floor and progress slowly through a few levels ( eg place extra material under the sheet like a large bath towel etc)) to finish up some weeks later with something soft, cushy and comfortable.
