Corgi "boy" trouble - 02-04-2008, 10:47 PM

So, I have a little boy named Ein. When he goes to the bathroom I notice the only downside to his breeding. You see the legs are short and the belly's long. This makes for the occasional "tummy accident", where he gets a little on his belly and now can't understand why he's getting washed AGAIN! :P

Does anyone else's little guy have this aiming trouble?

HAHAHA.... of course! It's part of why we love them! lol.
Westin doesn't get washed every time though! I just figure that it'll mix in with all the mud and sand from his walks and outings!

I've had five Corgi boys (all of conformation show standard) among six Pems and have not had the experience of a Corgi peeing on his tummy. I can see where an overweight or beyond normal low-to-the-ground Corgi could be possibly subject to this kind of fouling.

I'm sure not all of it goes on his tummy, just a little! (gets stuck in the fur)
but Westin is a fluff and has more fur than normal, so maybe it's just us!

Forgot he was a fluff. You need to keep him trimmed.

From a fellow boy fluff mum, yes we too see that dribble....we keep it trimmed up short to avoid as much as possible or a quick swipe with a baby wipe usually does the trick....our little lady of the house is still too tiny to trim, IMO,so we wet wiper her too...its slushy/muddy right now so the dogs know its the name of the game if they want to come back inside...note to self- next time, get darker shade of carpet to appease the pups....

It never occurred to me to check his belly, but I don't think his "alignment" is causing trouble there. He does hike his leg, and then step right in the pee almost everytime though! His feet get cleaned a lot, especially when they get too much "Frito" aroma!

Trimming the hair on his belly will help and instead of constantly washing him--use baby wipes! Just swipe the undercarriage when he comes in and that should work perfect. That's what I use a lot of the time at the dog shows when one of the boys gets distracted and pees on the back of a front foot or where ever. I also use a waterless shampoo and washcloth but the baby wipes work so much faster and then just throw them away.

" A Pembroke Corgi" : "When we are born...our ears are down...our tails are docked & we wear no frown. As we mature...the ears come up...our personality develops...no more a pup. When we chew our bone...the legs come out...and the "Flying Squirrel" lies alone. A corgi is a wonderful breed...much LOVE from owner to Canine...is received."
