Unhappy I will miss our little girl - 03-14-2008, 09:50 AM

We are going on a vacation for 3 weeks and that will be the first time we will not take Ein with us. The longest I haven't seen her so far was 1 day. I know that she will be in good hands. But I will miss her. She will stay at my In laws with her dog friend and my future sister in law will take care of them. (My In laws are coming with us for 2 weeks).

I know what you are talking about!
(on a certain level, anyways)
we left Westin with my in-laws for three days once...
almost killed me that he wasn't super excited to see me when I went and picked him up!
but we are leaving him with them again for about a week and a half at the end of June, so I'll be in your boat!
It's hard to be without our babies, huh?
Bet they don't miss us the same way!

My wife and I went to Hawaii last year. I had to go one full week without Nick. prior to that the longest I spent without my corgi was one day. I was sad for most of the vacation. When we came home I took an additional day off from work and spent it with the little guy. He was happy to see me but not as happy as I was to see him!

I wish we could take Ein with us. But we are going to Europe.
I think Ein is like Westin she will not miss us that much. She loves going to my In laws playing with their dog.

Isn't it a shame that airfares are so expensive for dogs - Ein would love Europe where in most of the countries, dogs are treated better by authorities, with less restrictions and regulations, than they are in the USA

I've had the same experience with every dog I've had. It does almost kill you doesn't it! I guess on the other hand, it probably means the dog is able to adjust to different situations.

Europe will be a lot of fun! Ein may feel like she's on her own 3-week vacation with a playmate.

I've never left Charlie, but several years ago I did take care of my dad's dog for seven weeks at my house while my mom was hospitalized. Rascal was very bonded to my father and the first two days she seemed sad and didn't eat much. By day 3, she started to enjoy herself, play, eat and act like her normal self. I do think dogs adjust to new situations as well or better than we humans do!

Have a great trip!

Westin loves to play with the dog pack at my in-laws.....
two blue heelers and a lab.. he has unlimited playmates to use up all his energy.
in a sense, it should make you feel a little better that at least she is with people she knows instead of in a kennel where she only gets three walks and three meals a day... and she has a playmate! but it doesn't help that you have to leave her, huh? Is it any consolation that I'll be posting the same thing in 3 months!?!?

Waeryn also stayed with family for a few days. I was so excited to go pick her up but when I walked through the door she barely glanced at me before she trotted away after her new dog friends. I was so sad!
