AKC Names -
04-22-2008, 09:35 AM
Well, I just pulled my AKC papers (haven't registered Charlie yet) and want to register Charlie before July 4th to avoid a late fee.
I haven't sent the papers in because I keep changing my mind on his "official" name. When I picked up my pup, he was barking the entire way home. So as not to call him "Shhh, what's your face", I started calling him Charlie thinking I would change his name the first week. After 3 days, he was answering to Charlie so it stuck.
Anyway I'm open to suggestions on his registered name. I keep going back and forth between Jollyville Natural Selection (reference to Charles Darwin, or maybe something with Survival of the Fittest), and Jollyville Always a Good Time (reference to "good time Charlie" - always ready for a party). (Jollyville is the name of the community in Austin where we live.)
I'm not feeling very creative here, and can't find many famous "Charles" or "Charlies". Any reference to Prince Charles or the Queen seems too cliche. Other than that, I'm appreciate any creative ideas from the forum.

There isn't a kennel name involved right?
From "Puppy Head's" Avatar photo and the others you posted of him, Jollyville Always a Good Time is very fitting. And for the record, I find it very creative. I like registered names that flow and link to the call name like this one does. It also suits his personality.

Thank you, Debbie. Right now Jollyville Always a Good Time is the frontrunner, unless something better comes up. His breeder suggested using my first or last name in his registered name to make it unique. Since she doesn't show (and I won't be breeding Charlie), she didn't seem to care about me using her name.

Jollyville The Tramp - referencing Charlie Chaplin
Jollyville Good Grief - referencing Charlie Brown
Jollyville A Dog name Charlie - referencing Charlie Brown's first movie.
Jollyville and the Chocolate Factory - Referencing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

I wasn't that creative for Duncan. He is Duncan Donut. Silly I know, but I knew I would call a boy dog Duncan. Everytime I would say his name, so he would get use to it; my husband would say Donut. So, this way, he had a part in naming him.
Although, you leave it up to my husband, it would have been Sh*****g Sherman Tank. Tank or Sherm for short. He said he never seen a puppy plow through things to clear a path like a tank or go to the bathroom as much as he did.
I've already let my husband pretty much name two of our cats, which was a mistake. Dippy was short for DipSh** and Lissie is short for Little Sh**. I think my husband has a fetish for crappy names. LOL

That's funny Lou Ann! I like Duncan Donut. My neighbor and I took Charlie and her dog Willie to the park today. Charlie pooped 3 times in an hour. I told her I was going to name him "Poopy Puppy Head".

I like Jollyville. If you notice most dogs that come from responsible breeders do not have the breeder's name as the kennel name. It's either a word that means something to them or a made up word. (Taflar comes from my first two dogs, Taffy a Golden and Larkin a Pembroke.)

I have noticed that (show breeder) kennel names are usually not the person's name. I probably will never be a breeder, unless I meet some rich guy who wants to support the "habit". Stranger things have happened. ...just not to me. But I do like using Jollyville, instead of my name.
I'm thinking of tweaking it to "Jollyville Dashing Good Time"... dashing for speed (agility or flyball) and double-meaning, charming/attractive.
Still open to ideas. I like noonedoes ideas...especially Good Grief for Charlie Brown.

Rich? We're susposed to be rich? Hmmm, someone forgot to tell most of us that little detail. And yeah, it would help. But no, we're not rich, just average middle class families who spend our money on our dogs as a hobby. (Skiing is expensive too, but skis aren't happy to see you when you get home!)

For what it's worth - I like Always a Good Time better. I think it flows better. And I like Good Time Charlie too.

LOL No, I didn't mean to insinuate that responsible breeders are rich! A second middle-class income would make me "feel" rich though. No way I could afford to breed and show on my single income and mortgage/bills to pay.
I'm afraid there might be several "Good Time Charlie" registrations (though I know that's why to use "Jollyville" in front). Guess I like the idea of his name being a bit of a puzzle, without being too obscure. I appreciate your opinions!

I'm sure there would be multiple "Good Time Charlie's" and that would be handled by adding whichever number they were up to at the end.
I think Jollyville would make a great kennel name myself.

Well I seriously don't have time or money to become a kennel owner. I would like to see my Jollyville dog(s) come up on agility winner lists someday.
