Funny Comments from Other Dog Owners - 05-10-2008, 10:42 AM

We all occassionally run into other dogs and owners while out walking our Corgi. While stopping to chat for a moment and let the dogs sniff, dog owners make some really funny comments. I though it might be fun to start a thread about funny or cute things that others have said about their dog, or about your dog.

Today, Charlie and I were walking and met a young woman walking her small dog. The dog was obviously a mixed-breed of some type. To make polite conversation, I guessed, "Ummm. Is she Miniature Schnauzer?" (The ears and face weren't quite right for a Schnauzer.)

The young woman replied, "She's a Llaso Apso, Miniature Schnauzer, called a Schapso. I didn't even know they made those!"

It's nonsense on one hand to give a mongrel dog some kind of official breed title and it is getting over the top, but on the other hand it is cute.
Of course it promotes mixed breeding as a sort of legitimate alternative to the 334-odd officially recognised 'pure' breeds. Anyway any mixed breed can relatively quickly become a recognised 'pure' breed with some dedicated breeding management.

Living in New York City, my wife and I see a lot of these cross breeds. Labradoodle and puggles seem to be the more popular. Some definitely are pretty cute. Then of course there are the dogs that got away from the dog catcher. Nick has a friend that looks like a rottewieller in a basset hound's body. His owner refers to him as an "American Canine"
