Dillon is also a cat guardian of sorts!
I read your story and really could relate. I have three cats, one who doesnt dare dream of going outside and one that only will walk out onto the deck but if anything makes even the slightest noise she darts back inside. And then there is Misty, my 16 yr old diabetic kitty who when presented with the opportunity will sneak outside- she never goes far - all she really wants to do is sit in the grass and graze! Dillon has a fence around a small part of our yard that is attached to the deck so we can open the door and he can be on the deck or we can open the dog gate and let him into his penned area . Well i had the door open, thinking misty was napping upstairs. A little while after, Dillon started whining and running to me , to the door, to me to the door, so i followed him, and found misty had been able to squeeze in between the rails of the deck and was sitting comfortably in the grass 3 ft below grazing! From my reaction ( i was pretty upset and panicked that she had gotten out) dillon learned that when ever the door is open he keeps guard, and if misty or any of the other kitties venture too close, he herds them away from the door. He is a smart pup, and knows that i dont want the kitties outside.
Sounds like Cody was definately telling you that kitty is outside and NOT supposed to be! smart boy! Emilie |

Great for Dillon for alerting you also. Of my three cats, the senior cat is not the one I would want roaming at night and for Cody not to quiety slip out behind him to follow him surprised me totally.
I give him full credit for alerting me. Cody is not one to normally sit by the patio door and bark.thanks for sharing your story also |

Linda,
It is a good thing you were warned! I am curious though, do you think Cody would really leave? Dillon always acts like he might, but really, he wants to keep his eye on me and the hubby...infact, he is most upset when he knows we are both home but in different rooms of the house, if i am upstairs and hubby is downstairs, he runs back and forth between us- his flock has been separated! I think that if i left the door open he might go out but would try to come right back in again. I am glad that Cody didn't go out and chose to alert you instead...did he get a cookie for that? Cody sounds like a really smart boy! Emilie |

Yes, I think given the fact that his cat brother went out, I would have thought forsure that he would have exited right behind him - I really was surprised, because when the cats go downstairs, Cody usually follows
He likes to be in the midst of what they are up to

I live in an apartment building, so the hallway is as far as my cats can escape (I have 5 cats - a herd). However, my 3 legged cat Triston, always makes a bee-line for my neighbour's apartment at the end and around the corner. Rupert has been trained to go get him, Triston smacks Rupe and makes all kinds of scary noises, but Rupe always brings him back.
I'm sure Cody, Dillon and Rupe do consider their cats as part of their pack and care for them in the same way they do their dog pack members.

Glad to hear Cody has the watch dog in him! He was obviously looking out for his cat brother! Ace loves to follow Peiper around and barks at him any time he does something he shouldn't. I really think Ace is just trying to get Peiper in trouble!!!! Peiper does the same thing so can't fault either of them. Just doing the sibling rivalry thing!
