Talking about rooting for the enemy. You're home team is the Illini, so aren't you guys rooting for the enemy? LOL Michigan fans are kinda jerks up here so I don't much care for them. It's the underdog rooter in me I guess. I grew up in the middle of (miles wise) of the Univ. of MI and Mi State. My home town I believe was slanted to the State side. Plus my childhood friend always loved MSU and so I kinda followed. He also got me into the Dolphins, so I blame him for all the pain I've gotten from having not so great seasons from both of them. The dolphins actually have one the the best winning percentages in the league in the past ten years I believe, but being in such a tough division has kept us out of the playoffs. Not this year though. Plenty of analysts have Miami going to the Super Bowl. It'll be a home game this year!!!!! WOOHOO!!!

Cheryl's Hubby here
Darci You guys played a fantastic game. The only thing that went wrong is someone had to loose. This year was just our year. Do not feel bad about your team or your coach. You'r boys played some of the best football I have seen in a long time. Go Vols! and Go Gators! Cheryl's Hubby |

Thanks Cheryl's Hubby.
It was a really great game. Your right someone has to loose, theres always next yr. We made a couple of really bad mistakes but all in all I was very impressed with the heart and soul of Tennessee. I was impressed with the defense with the Gators, they shut down our running game. A couple of bad calls on both sides, but seem to equal out. But I agree it was a great game, kept me screaming and on the edge of my seat. Cant wait til next week, my blood runs orange, I'll never stop supporting our boys.

Can't talk your language. But only today American football was advertised on a local radio station here in the Wellington region with a call for players interested in taking up the game to register as pre-season training was about to start and there are several local clubs to join.
However, my Pem, Tayor did get as excited as a group of us humans did, when the local representative rugby team in the top provincial (State) championship, just won their latest game, four minutes after the full-time siren had sounded, in pipping the best performing team (Canterbury) almost every year for the last dozen. Taylor turned on his special shrill voice and danced around as we humans lept about and clapped and cheered. |

College Football
Well I think my corgi, Gizmo, would make a good football player. Hubby has taught him to tackle you if you have his toy when we yell "fumble!". We've also taught him to toss his toy (which by the way is a little football shaped squeaky toy). He'll back up when you que him to open for a pass.
Saturday he had his Purdue bandana on. Sunday he got all excited while hubby was rooting for the Chicago Bears. Now we need to find a Bear's bandana, ha ha. He thought it was play time with all the yelling and cheering that was going on. We also follow high-school football, so it's just that time of year. Michael, I guess it's hard for anyone outside of this country to understand the American football craze. |

Now we can boast about who is the maddest over sport. New Zealand's religion is rugby football. Ask any Aussie - KatC for instance - or any South African ( and we have a Go Corgi member). Here's one instance. I had a very bad dose of the flu - but still I got up and travelled 250 miles to see a shield rugby match between Wellington and Taranaki. We lost by a point or two and would have won had not a player (with the surname of Wolf - but it shouild have been Corgi) - only 5 ft 4in at the most - no kidding - robbed one of our players of the ball as he was in the throws of diving for the tryline. Anyway, I was too sick to travel home and had toi stay in the area for six days at my Aunt's house. And she was not a good hostess.
A parish priest of a few years ago always brought up rugby in his Sunday sermons - even giving a review or preview of some game or other. And he would never tell the congregation a score if the match was a delayed telecast on TV for later that day. Funny that most other priests in NZ haven't followed his example. |

Checkers: checked on this for you tonight, and Las Vegas oddsmakers say that if Florida surpasses Michigan as the 2nd ranked team, then they will be considered underdogs in the national championship by six points against Ohio State. (Note: if Ohio and Florida play then it could be the first year in history that the same school wins titles in both basketball and football, potentially. My husband is really big in sportsbetting, and is quite good at it, and we plan to let some money ride on this set-up, should be interesting.)

Apart from any Brits, Aussies and South Africans. has anyone else heard how brilliant the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team has performed during this year? The Rugby World Cup us held in France next year and this is the world's third most watched sporting event (after the soccer world cup and the Olympics). NZ are hot favourites for the world title that comes up for grabs every four years and despite their favouritism every four years, the All Blacks have only won the world cup once - in 1987.
There is a current controversy about the Haka (Maori war dance) that the All Blacks perform before every international test match they play. I wonder if this has gotten into the news in the USA. On one occasion the All Blacks were strongly favoured to win the final of the world cup (in South Aftrica in 1999) against South Africa - the whole team members were poisoned. Some of the team couldn't play in the final, others were too sick to play to their best, two went off the field before the game finished because of the poisoning and the All Blacks lost the game in extra time (or in overtime as they say in basketball). |

Yay! We got into the championship! You can go ahead and let your bet fall any way you want. We'll still be cheering for our Gators! Heck, even the fact that we have come this far this season is more than we expected. Maybe we'll just come out and suprise everyone this game too!
