Lightbulb vote info - 11-03-2006, 04:07 PM

I am encouraging all the US registered voters to vote next week! I found a great web site that will help you decide if you want to re-elect your Congressmen

http://ww3.intelligentvote.com

It is interactive - you fill in your state, the web site shows you your Senators and House of Representatives. (You pick your Rep.)

Next it takes you to a page that has 30 bills that were voted on and a summary of the bill - YOU vote how you feel about the bill, at the end of the page click on summery and it will show you how your vote matches up to your Senator and Congressman's vote.

Pretty interesting to see if your views match and if your Congressman is representing your view. I am not recomending which party you vote for only that as an American that you do vote.

I won't be voting but I'll tell you when NZ has its local body ( city and regional councils) elections and its national elections. However I don't necessarily agree that everyone should exercise their vote. I would say that a large majority of New Zealanders would find favour with the Democrats gaining control in the USA.

Michael:

I am sure there are alot of countries that would like to see the democrats gain control and I am also sure there are alot of democrats as well as republicans on this board so probably is not a good topic for here just like religion.

Freedom of speech though. People can talk what they want as long as it's not offensive and tasteless. But, sensitive topics are not really encouraged.

All I can say is that wars do not solve problems. As long as lives are lost, no one really gains. Oops, I think I just made a very sensitive remark!

I know is not best to talk politics (or religion) in many places as people get really heated...I often wonder how barbara walters is able to be on "the View" when they have political conversations and yet she manages to "hide" her affiliation...I am impressed with her professionalism... I dont think i could do it...when I heard the vote results Dillon and I danced in the living room...I am sure my neighbors think I am totally nuts...oh well..

At least you and Dillon are obviously the same party. Miss Gambler and I are not, she just has to do everything opposite than me! (But I laughed last!)

As long as lives are lost, no one really gains.

Tell that to the survivors of WW2

I personally thank all the GI's and their families for all they have done for our country and other countries as well. After all, they are the ones that fought for our freedom of the right to religion, the right to vote and the right to free speech.

We are an extremely pro-military family. My husband would not be here if not for the US Army, and the rest of his family did not get out, and then it is the US govt that helped raise him. (Sweetly's comment was not thought out.)

Bonnie,

I just got an email sent to me this morning by my sister in law with what you just posted. Isn't it true that so many want to come to the US to live and be protected, yet at the same time they hate us. I also thank our military wholeheartedley and their families and what they go through to protect us; it certainly would not be easy to be a parent and have my son over there worrying about him daily whether he would come home or not and really, many of these boys are still kids at 18 - but look how brave they are. We are always helping other countries and Many countries live under the security of our Military protecting them whether they want to admit it or not. Freedom is wonderful, but it does not come without a price.

If someone has clear cut answers on how to end the war and Guarantee our safety against another terrorist attack, I am all for it. That is just it, everyone wants change, but no one seems to be able to give an exact plan on how they will accomplish this.

When my 17 year old son flies on a plane next spring, with his high school baseball team to go to Florida, I want him to be safe and I already know I will be worrying about it - I can't imagine what families of 911 went through.

My husband still remembers being pulled through throngs of people during the fall of Saigon towards the Embassy, he says that he can still feel the grip his grandmother had on his wrist. He was three. It was the US Army that got them out, and fed them, and it was the US Govt that helped raise him and made him the wonderful man that he is. My husband idolized US soldiers and the military his entire life, and he hates what is happening with society these days when he has seen firsthand just how great it is, if he's said it once, he's said it a million times, "If it's so bad here, then leave." (He never envisioned as a sad child growing up all alone in a country where he could not even communicate, that he would marry an Irish redhead who would write his story!)

*He also says that he never thought that he would own a small dog like a Corgi, but he's just as bad as me when it comes to spoiling her!)

Bravo to our troops. It takes courage to face death.

One thing that do piss me off is that we have a lot of people who live here and says the US stinks. So why not leave? Then you got those who are immigrants who hold up their native flag and wave. They don't even hold the US flag. The US who fed them and gave them a home. I hate ingrates.

The US doesn't stink. Every country have their own problem. This is the ONLY country in the world that has over 100 nationalities/ethnicities/race that can cope in one place. No other country will take in this many people with open arms. Sure, we got problems but no one else has that hospitality.
