How absolutely ghastly and it reproves that there are a lot of scumbag dog food manufacturers out there trying to capitalise on such a huge market. Makes one wary of any food not approved by AAFCO or other dog food that has a world wide reputation. Pedigree now brings out wet food (casseroles) that have AAFCO approval - it s not just minumum/ max standards but approval means that the food contains EVERY analysed food item that is necessary for a normal dog's complete health.

In my opinion, the AAFCO is a joke. Too many dog foods full of bad ingredients meet their approval (Pedigree is one of the many at the top of my mind).

Iams and Eukanuba were two of the foods mentioned. They are not considered "scumbag" dog food manufactuerers.

And aren't they AAFCO approved foods? And they have a worldwide reputation.

From the page mentioned in the previous post "P&G announced Friday the recall of specific 3 oz., 5.5 oz., 6 oz. and 13.2 oz. canned and 3 oz. and 5.3 oz. foil pouch cat and dog wet food products made by Menu Foods but sold under the Iams and Eukanuba brands."

Thank you Peggy I was just about to inform Michael that Iams and Eukanuba are AAFCO approved foods.

I have been feeding Chip and Dale Nature's Recipe canned mixed with their dry. It looks like a different manufacturer but I am worried.

If it's a different manufacturer you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

I'd just keep feeding as you are.

Eukanuba dry food was not approved by AAFCO at this time two months ago - maybe because the company doesn't seek AAFCO approval. or can't meet all the requirements. I don't know about Iams - but if it is the same company as Eukanuba, a similar situation would exist.
Now AAFCO may approve of one food item or several food items from a manufacturing brand, but not every item unless they are submitted and meet the requirements and past the testing. I have an idea that Pedigree are maybe the first wet food brand to have at least one of its food proiducts approved by AAFCO

Well, if it's made by the company w/the recall it should be on the webiste if anyone can ever get in. (I'm guessing a lot of traffic right now.)

Is there a number on the can? You should be able to call them and ask if it's made by the company w/the recall.

I'm betting it's not. Nature's Recipe isn't sold in grocery stores, Wal Mart, although it is sold at Petsmart.

I think it's the foods made for the mass market, like Iams. Not just in pet suppply stores but in Wal Mart and grocery stores too. Procter and Gamble foods.

I think you are right Peggy. I don't think it is a P & G product. The line is busy and my boys have been eating this for awhile and seem to be fine. I will check the website in the morning.

Another interesting find - My husband bought lady some canned dog food that is really cheap Paws premium and smells awful. It has been tested by AAFCO and been in the cupboard for ages because I won't feed it and I have been meaning to give it to an unfortunate that doesn't have any dog food - it's better then nothing so I thought.

Iams and Eukanuba are the same company. They're now owned by Procter and Gamble.

They've been around a long time. Do you have proof that they were not approved till 2 mos. ago? And where can I see that?

I doubt that.
