We just found this sweet girl last night. We got a call from a neighbor saying this dog had been locked in the backyard since Katrina and the owners have not been back. We went by to check it out, thinking that couldn't possibly be true, and we find this sweet little girl, just waiting to be rescued:

We need to get the message out that these dogs are STILL OUT THERE! People have asked us what we're still doing here. They say the situation is "under control" and we are no longer needed. Well, this little girl would disagree. She would say we still need to be here, we still need support, and animals still need to be rescued.
If anyone is thinking of volunteering or donating, now is a great time! A lot of volunteers have gone home, and a lot of people think there isn't any more need for their help. We still need you! Rich set up his own nonprofit, Grassroots Emergency Animal Rescue, which is the organization now in charge at the Winn Dixie. We have a website! it's http://www.grassrootsrescue.org.
We are in desperate need of transports to get the animals out to shelters and foster homes. We can't continue rescuing and bringing animals in if we aren't shipping any out. It's been several days now since we've had a transport and we're just about full. Especially cats- we haven't found anyone to take cats in a long time and we literally cannot take in any more at this time.
We also need a place to go- once the weather starts turning colder, we won't be able to continue housing the animals (and the volunteers) in the parking lot. We may need to lease a building, which would make donations even more vital.
I just wanted to let y'all know what is still going on down here, and that we still do need help.
