Ask not for whom the bell tolls: It's Rover - 04-25-2008, 04:57 PM

BETHLEHEM, Ga. — Funeral services were held recently
for Marshall
"King" Scarborough who, surrounded by his loving
family, died in a hospital
after a brief illness.

he mother of the family, Karen Scarborough, chose a simple white casket for Marshall. The services were held in a quaint chapel with only two pews, a chandelier hanging overhead. He was buried in a grassy plot near a fountain, shaded by blooming dogwood trees. His grave was adorned with miniature red carnations and a simple bronze marker.

In the bereavement registry, Karen Scarborough's son, Chip, a college student, wrote fond memories of 14-year-old Marshall, describing him as a "wonderful, loyal dog." Marshall, you see, was the family pet, a 36-pound Pembroke Welsh corgi.

I'm a little mixed on this one...

I love my Byron and Fergie, along with our 3 cats, but to shell out 2K for a funeral seems a little weird. The picture of the viewing also seems outta sorts - god, I don't even want that.

The artical was more interesting on the impacts of pets on our society. They are our children - as it is with Linda and me along with many of you.

I would spend an ungodly amount of money to keep our pets going - a long as the quality of life is there. But when the time comes I would do what's right, get the ashes, get the rock, and bury them along side Pete, Babes, Thia, and Pumpkin.

If I had the 2K to spend on a funeral - that money would go to CorgiAid

That is exactly what I thought. CorgiAid or a Corgi Rescue group.

I plan to cremate Duncan and Chloe, but not have a lavish funeral for them. I already have two cats buried in the back yard. Dippy who was about 14 and her son, Bubba, who was 13.

Taylor would wish for a simple but poignant funeral with his favourite songs and his favourie people and dog friends present. To Taylor, the welfare of living Corgis is more important than those who pass away.
But Corgis remember well those who have gone before them.
Today Taylor refused twice to visit the neighbour across the road whose dog, Judy died last year aged nearly 17 and is buried on her mum's property complete with a headstone. He has never willingly gone to the place ever since Judy died.

Thanks Debbie for sharing that - I can completely understand the people who had the funeral for their dog. There is love for a dog and then there is love for a dog. If I had that available, I may have done that for Digger. People spend huge amounts of money on funerals for people, sometimes even for people they didn't particularly like because it has to be done so why not spend money on a beloved pet who has brought years of joy and unconditional love to your home and it just may have helped these people with their grief. I think it is a great way to pay tribute to your beloved pet.
