Unhappy *~* Petsmart: what I saw today SHOCKED me !!

*~* I took Midnight & Sunshine to Petsmart today (along with my 2 kids: Kyle & Sara )...and I was SHOCKED when a couple approached us with their Boxer.
Their Boxer...looked so amaciated (spelling ?) and skinny...that you could see almost all of his ribs !! He looked like he could barly walk & had barely any energy ! He was shaking ! Like I mentioned, this couple approached us and then said, "We are trying to get rid of our dog...do you want him ?"

~~QUOTE...UN~QUOTE~~
~~verbatim...those were the guy's exact words~~

The couple was relatively clean cut and looked TO ME like that probably could afford to feed him...but, I DO NOT know their situation that led them to come to Petsmart today and walk the store trying to get rid of their Canine son.

I was not brave enough to ask either of them...WHY they were trying to get rid of him. I could NOT get past the condition of the poor Boxer boy.

I did overhear the guy say to another couple, "He is 2 years old and we keep him on a "Zip Line Outside". He is used to it." I walked away after that and did not hear the response or the end of the comment.

WHAT WOULD...YOU HAVE DONE...IF THIS HAPPENED TO YOU ?

*~* Nikki

Kill the b********ds then take the dog to an organisaton that will get a court order to extract money from the former owners estate to help pay for the dog's rehabilitation etc

Well, I suppose the Boxer could have some kind of ailment that forces him/her to be so skinny and unhealthy looking. But somehow I doubt it. Don't you?

How weird! I love dogs but several things would go through my mind about this situation.
I feel very sorry for the poor dog, but you don't know if the dog is sick, has bad habits or what. So first off the thought of taking this dog off their hands is a big decision. Even if you know of a rescue to take it to, you have to be careful of not letting it come in contact with your dogs until it has been checked by a vet.
I guess you could've taken their phone number and information, that way you could try to make some contacts to help them.
You tell them you can't take the dog, but you might be able to help them find it a new home.
It actually could be worse for the dog, they could've just abandoned it somewhere, but instead they were trying to find it a home.
I sure hope they found it a new home.

Wow, what a sad story. I like Michael's response but I'm a little short on bail money right now so Assault isn't the way to go this month.....

What do you do? If this family could find their way to Petsmart, could they possibly find their way to a shelter? What went thru my mind was if they didn't find a taker at Petsmart, I bet they dropped the poor thing off along some road on the way home.

I wonder what would happen if they walked up to the manager or an em-ployee of Petsmart and tried to give the dog away? I bet they wouldn't know what to do.

I am very fortunate to have a wonderful family run pet supply store that is equal distance from my house as Petsmart is. These people work hand in hand with a local rescue organization for both cats and dogs. If this had happened at their store, I know they would have taken the dog.

But at Petsmart, the big chain, I doubt an employee would have taken him/taken responsibility. This just further reinforces why I need to make my purchases at the family run pet supply store.

So sad Nikki. I don't know what I would have done . . . but I'm sure that (whatever it was) I would be on here asking the same question(s) as you are!

Poor baby.

Leaving all of this because it is excellent advice. PetSmart's usually have adoption fairs and centers on a regular basis. Talking to some of the staff and/or the trainer would have been an option. All one has to do is google Boxer Rescue, MO or whatever state and you will come up with numerous hits. Or go to <http://www.akc.org> and find the breeds link, rescue contact information can be found as a link under that.

It's so sad to see that dog in such devastating condition. No matter how well dressed or clean cut someone is, it doesn't mean they are caring, nice or without vile. We have to look beyond looks. If someone shaved off all of Milo's fur, I would still love him.
