Barbara, thanks for the story link. We, like most folks on this site, pick and choose from Millan's philosophy. I do like his suggestions that our dogs need to get walked or exercised daily for their balance (and ours, too). But I disagree with his de-emphasis on affection. Our Corgis are too loveable!

I agree that agression breeds agression. Love and gentle handling are much more effective. Truthfully, I don't watch him much. A dog started growling and biting at obedience class last night and the instructor just held him at bay by his collar until he settled down. He wasn't hurt but I kept Chip away from him after that.

I read that article and I thought the Times writer made a good point about Milan not looking at dogs as individuals.

I realize they are not individuals/people but they are individuals/dogs. hope that made sense!!!!

And I think this is why I have a hard time warming up to his advice. I enjoy his show (my two seem like angels sometimes.....) and occasionally I agree w/ him but over all, I think his interactions w/ dogs are one dimensional.
