I couldn't believe it when I saw this thread, and then to hear it was a stingray. What a very fluke accident and how very sad

I couldn't believe it when my hubby told me. Steve Irwin was always doing dangerous things but you never thought that it would kill him. It is a shame. I loved watching all the crazy things he did. He family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I hate when people say that "At least he died doing what he loved to." I've never quite understood how this makes any relief for a death. It's like saying "At least he died living like he always loved to live." Dying is such a frightening and unfortunate fact of life that this comment seems like something people say when they have nothing else to say. Some sort of rationality. Like he'd rather die that way that any other way. Just silly, I say.

It is always the ones left behind that are hurt so much. I feel so sorry for his wife, children and parents, family etc. I was shocked also. When I watched his newest shows, I had often thought that he was getting more daring. I really liked him.

Everyone here is in total shock and disbelief. His home is just 43K (27 miles) from where I live. All Australians, and especially we Queenslanders looked on Steve, his wife Terri and children Bindi and Bob as part of our family.

Being an Australian, Steve had a lot of affinity with New Zealanders and all the schools today in NZ will have Steve as the key subject matter in the classroom. Many children and adults here have cried over learning of his death. I broke it to my wife last night and she was very upset and in disbelief being a very keen fan of Steve. When we last visited Queensland, we could have gone to Steve's Australian Zoo but crocs are not my most favourite animal.
I don't watch a lot of tv - apart from rugby matches, but Steve had a habit of lighting up a screen and almost coming out of the television set and into your living room.
Outside of Australia and NZ, Steve was most popular in the USA which is interesting since the USA has huge responsibilities for the care of environment and I'll leave it to my American Go Corgi friends, to assertain if their people are doing a good job with the world we live in. There will never be another Steve. These days passion and enthusiasm for anything is going out the door - except if you are a terrorist
Today's major newspapers in NZ all had almost their entire front page devoted to Steve and his most untimely death - only the third Australian ever to die from a stingray barb. The metro newspaper from Wellington also carried other stories concerning Steve and a cartoon piece which showd a croc with tears in his eyes, a snake bowing his head and a Koala clinging from a tree branch and saying "crikey."

Unhappy *~* I heard about it...and I cried. - 09-04-2006, 09:14 PM

*~* I know that he is not related to me and I never even met Steve Irwin...but, he has such a magnetic personality...that I could help but feel drawn to him.

My family used to sit down together and watch The Croc Hunter. I remember when he first met Terri...then, when his daughter was born...

we were there in front of the T.V. ready to share it with him.

Steve Irwin will be remembered for quite some time.

He is an amazing man !

" A Pembroke Corgi" : "When we are born...our ears are down...our tails are docked & we wear no frown. As we mature...the ears come up...our personality develops...no more a pup. When we chew our bone...the legs come out...and the "Flying Squirrel" lies alone. A corgi is a wonderful breed...much LOVE from owner to Canine...is received."
