{ Petsmart in Springfield, Missouri }
{{ THE SAME PETSMART WHERE I SAW THAT POOR Boxer boy....that was so emaciated looking. Remember my Boxer story that I mentioned to you
ALL ? }}

Kyle & Sara (my 2 kids) get to sit in the Puppy Playpens and hand the puppies to interested people who might want to adopt them. The both also get to walk the smaller dogs.

I get to walk the bigger dogs, help with the adoption paperwork, make I.D. tags, give out food & care packages to the new pet parents.

I am...sooooooo...TOTALLY...excited !!

My children get to experience COMMUNITY SERVICE work !

~~~jumping for joy~~~
Good for you and your kids. Being a member of a Lions club, I get to do all kinds of community service acts. But just recently a neighbour's strong but amiable male Labrador named Ben followed me and Taylor to my son's school. On the way back my son volunteered to hold onto Ben's collar for one kilometre and lead him back home safely. No mean feat, a nine year old escorting a big Lab for nearly 15 minutes.
That is excellent Nikki. I have been thinking that I would like to get into some transporting rescue dogs IF I can find out who to contact and all the details. Would love to volunteer at SPCA, etc but with my work hours, I am spread to thin. Someday, I hope to take in a rescue for awhile.
That is a wonderful thing to teach and share with your kids Nikki! Community involvement is a great character builder for youth. Plus you're helping out animals at the sametime! Terriffic!
*~* FEEDBACK...from Petsmart - 09-09-2006, 04:13 PM
*~* Okay...so, we arrived EARLY to Petsmart (11:15AM) and I met with Misty & Emily.
{ I had the name of the pet rescue organization WRONG ! The correct name is:
All Creatures Rescue. }
( Furry Friends Rescue is the name of the organization that is for CATS. )
Sorry...
Okay...so, we arrived EARLY to Petsmart (11:15AM) and we helped Misty & Emily: set up 2 tables, set up metal crates, set up puppy playpens, get out water pails & bungie cord them to the cages so the dogs would not tip over the water, put a toy in every crate or playpen, place information about EACH & EVERY DOG with a clothes pin onto the crate or playpen...etc.
* For the first hour...we just did a lot of water filling. There were about 10 dogs and a total of 6 puppies. We would use paper towels and clean up any messes of WATER or URINE as quick as we could so that the dogs or puppies would not walk or sit in it.
Misty & Emily were VERY helpful and explained things very well to me and my kids ! Both Misty & Emily were patient, soft spoken, personable and RESPECTFUL !! I felt completely comfortable being there and I knew exactly what to do. There was information posted about each individual dog....and it made answering questions from people....VERY EASY !
** For the rest of the time...we would document which dog that we would take for a walk. We would take the dog to a grassy area and try and get the dog to eliminate there. We would encourage the dog to try and walk for at least 10-15 minutes. So, it was pretty much EVERY HOUR....Kyle & Sara would choose a dog, I would document the names of the dog on the worksheet & then when Kyle & Sara brought those 2 dogs back...they would choose 2 more dogs.
We had a GREAT time VOLUNTEERING at Petsmart in Springfield, Missouri !!
We plan to go back NEXT SATURDAY !!
