Herding

Here's a link to my webshots page and some photos of my JJ and Lizi herding.
Herding July 2007 pictures from friends & fun photos on webshots

We took them to see if they'd be intrested or not. This was the first time they'd ever even seen sheep.

And my first time at trying to work with a dog herding.

There are a couple of places here in Utah that have instructors that teach herding. Well, they teach the people, so you and the dog can work together.

Ask around at kennel clubs. The AKC has a page where you can search for clubs in your area. American Kennel Club - Club Search and Directory

The all breed conformation clubs might have info too as many of them have people in them who do more than conformation. Or try the specialty clubs if there are any for any of the herding breeds in your area.

I've added a few more photos of Lizi that a friend too.

That's too cool!

Every time a flock of birds (or just large one) flies overhead Beau (my chocolate lab) will stand perfectly still and just watch, like he knows he's supposed to do something with them, he's just not totally sure what.

Peggy, those two certainly look as though they are having some fun there, even if the sheep aren't too sure. \And you, too - can you do the no-finger-in-the-mouth shepherds whistle yet?

Oh, heaven's NO! It's not me with the staff, that's Shauna the instructor. I'm the one in the lt. blue jeans.

I am ashamed of myself - my whistling skills are terrible - sometimes inaudible. It is amazing what Taylor can hear. I'd need a shepherd's dog whistling tool - perhaps an harmonica would do the job. I'm also a bit out of shape - haven't done much wolf whistling for awhile. Had a parrot who had a great wolf whistle. My wife has the world's loudest whistle and she has used it to good effect at rugby matches and pop shows.
