Unmatched venue

I bet there is nowhere else in the world that has matched the venue for agility competition as was the venue for the Upper Hutt Dog Training School's two day agility championships, held at the weekend just gone in Upper Hutt, New Zealand.

WE were given the main field of a large park (called Maidstone Park) for the championships. The main field is tagged with a large stand and facilities for spectators and is used mainly for rugby games. So last Saturday there we were with 250 dogs - some of them quite noisy - and two circuits and a whole lot of tents etc and a crowd of people from 8am until 4.30pm.
Now early in the afternoon, representative rugby teams arrived for rugby football matches between provincial (state) sides. And these games attracted the media and quite a lot of people. But they were relegated to the second field on the park complex that ran parallel to the main field. So for once agility had the best and rugby - NZ's national game - came in second. Our agility club had a barbecue going so they sold a lot more food through rugby players and spectators coming across.

So the point of what I'm saying is that while top rugby was been played, agility competition went on at the same time at the same venue. Can anyone think of any similar moments that will beat or match this?

By the way, the publicity prior to the agility championships said that dogs ranging from Corgis to German Shepherds will be competing. Guess who the "Corgis" was.

That sounds like a fun day. Michael. I have heard there is going to be agility at Gray Station here in my neck of the woods in October. I am planning on going. I have never seen agility trials before and I am looking forward to it.
