Food sampling poll - 12-10-2006, 08:09 PM

Here are a series of questions on you, your Corgi and food that require yes, no repsonses
It was one of many questions put to 2000 New Zealand dog owners. I'll give you the NZ results at the conclusion of the poll and compare with whar Go Corgi turns up. It will be interesting and is the first of a string of them.

I'm going to specify on that last one... I have sampled some of what I've fed both my dogs, because they get a lot of fresh foods... cottage cheese, yogurt, oatmeal, fruits and veggies etc. >^^;< I haven't sampled the kibble just yet lmfao...

EDIT: Oh wait, I see the words "no responses" now, so was I not allowed to reply? Go ahead and delete this if that's the case (I don't see a deete button for my own posts).

Ummm...maybe I'm weird but I HAVE in fact sampled my dogs' kibble. Hey, I'm an academic - I have an insatiable curiosity!

Nutro Natural Choice Desserts are not bad - they just taste like they need sugar.

Peanut Butter pupcorn tastes like styrofoam...blech.

Frosty Paws taste like frozen blech.

The Doggy sandwich cookies from the PetCo treat bar are actually pretty good...they taste like human cookies, just with less sugar.

NO - I've never tried any meat-based treat or canned dog food. I do have a limit.

Man - now everyone thinks I'm weird. But I figure, if I'm not brave enough to taste it, do I really want to give it to my dogs???

I deliberately added the words: DOG FOOD to make it clear that the question was not in reference to non-dog food ie human food. So dog food would be processed dry food (kibble), dog roll, canned dog food, dog biscuits, etc - not food that humans would normally eat. THe Corgi cake I bake every so often is suitable for humans as well as for dogs but I wouldn't cassify that as dog food.
Have fun.

I have only let Dillon eat foods off my plate that are healthy ( veggies and lean meats) and I too have tasted Dillon's cookies ( not the fish ones eww) and his kibble- again, if I am feeding it to him i should be able to eat it as well - I only feed the 100% human grade foods- all natural and therefore i should be able to taste it ( and i have.. and so has my husband )

Now Michael..... I looked over my response and it sounds worse than it really is..... really!

I do sometimes give them food off my plate (I never eat a lot of steak so I cut up what is left and give it to them).

I don't give them food from my utensils (spoon/fork) but I do sometimes let them lick the spoon when I am done (yogurt, ice cream)...

And as for the alcohol.... Tuck likes to lick the rim of the beer can so I give him a drop or two on my finger.

I DO HAVE A "SANITIZE" FEATURE ON MY DISHWASHER.... so don't say eeeeeuuwwwwwwwww!

So what happens if some owners don't feed their dogs all kibble as a regular diet? Do they not count in this poll? To me, "dog food" is anything I put in their bowl, whether it is fresh, raw, you name it. Sorry to misunderstand. >u.u<

I have shared some of my food from my plate with Cody, I have let him lick my spoon, but only when I am done(don't plan on licking the spoon afterwards myself). No, I have not tasted his dry kibble.

And he gets beer if he eats fish and Chips and white or red wine, depending on what he is dining on Sorry, just kidding here, but I am just laughing at the alcohol question.

If I have something healthy left on my plate when I am finished (big IF here, I am not one to leave food uneaten!), then I will give a piece or two to Jackie. And I have tasted some of her treats, like Buddy Biscuits and the Nylabone Goodies & Grains, but not her kibble. The treats I have tried . . . I may as well have eaten the box . . . that's what they tasted like!

Ugh! I hate it when that happens!
And I too was surprised at the blandness of the Buddy Biscuits. Jackie likes them so much, and they smell ok, so i thought they would taste more like . . . something!

The good food for dogs is generally bland in taste (our tastes anyway) but one can 'spice things up a little without subjecting dogs to possible adverse tummy reaction. A bit of iodised salt wouldn't go astray, nor would carob ( the alternative choc for dogs).Taylor often makes loud lip smacking noises after a meal containing cooked hearts - so they must be extra tasty. Most red meats cooked to specification and given separately would present dogs with a reasonable element of flavour. Peanut butter and honey are not bland and neither I would imagine are any of the fruit that your Corgi likes.

We must do a thread on what food our Corgis DON'T like but are on the ok list for dogs. There will be some great variants here.
