Here is a poll on holidaying while accommodating on the trip, your Corgi. Almost always a difficult assignment.

We are outdoor enthusiasts so Annie n Joey learned early on to be good travelers. The dogs have been all over the US. It does take a little planning and extra work but definitely worth the trouble. We pick locations that will be dog friendly and time our vacations for cooler weather/off season. We are very careful to be good ambassadors. Really no problems with accommodations (last year we had a scary moment: middle of Nebraska, late night, small town, and some sort of kids athletic tournament - finally did find a room - along with what seemed the whole states population of pre-teen, hyped up little girls )
Would never take the dogs on a "shopping holiday"!

Rose comes with us as much as is possible. We generally are in camp grounds or at POPs. Some allow dogs, some don't, so we cut our holiday to suit our cloth. So to speak...
Shopping holiday?
Meh.
I can't imagine ever having enough money to go on a shopping holiday.

Sassy goes everywhere we go on vacation. We only go where it is Corgi friendly. If she is not welcome then neither are we, but we mostly go camping and my husband prefers primitive camping so she is always welcome and a big hit. She has traveled since she was 10 weeks old and takes several vacations a year. We bought a new vehicle this year and we made sure we got a crew cab so Sassy would have the entire back seat to call her own so to speak. She has her pillow, toys, water and food bowls in the floor, at all times whether short trip or long. Yes, she is spoiled, but well worth it.

Our first trip with Owen was a great success. However, we only spent two nights in pet-friendly hotels. One was great--the other was...well...let's just say I won't be returning unless my car breaks down just outside! We are going to take him for a week at the beach at a pet friendly rental, but we'll leave him with our friend and pet sitter extrodinaire when we go to Dublin. I am going to have him go over for a sleepover in a couple of weeks just so he can get used to the accomodations. He will be happy because he gets to spend time with one of his best dog buds; Monks the St. Bernard.

Haf and Huw just got back from their first trip to the ocean. We camped at Bodega Bay's Doran Park for 4 days, and they LOVED it. It's the real first vacation we've taken since we've had the dogs. I'm half dreading the trips to Catalina and Cancun later this year, since they will have to stay with my parents while we are gone. Fortunately, Catalina will only be a 4 day trip and Cancun will be about 7. We'll miss them terribly, but Catalina has a no pet policy and Cancun, well, just don't really feel safe taking them to Mexico.

My husband and I took Dooley on a 3 day weekend trip to a little place in The Georgia Mountains. Had a blast. We love to hike and so does Dooley. We stayed at a pet friendly hotel. It was the only one and it was just so, so. He was 8 months then. When we went walking around the town Dooley was a big hit. Everyone we passed had to pet him.
I am wanting to go to Savanah, Ga around August or September. I hope that we can find pet friendly places. I also want to go to Tybe Island not far from Savanah. I want to see what Dooley does when he sees the ocean for the first time.

Goofygirl:
Please check the rules of the beaches in Georgia. We took Chip to the panhandle of Florida last year and it was a $500 fine if he was caught on the beach. Horrible. Needless to say we drove the entire panhandle up to Charleston, SC so we could get on a beach with him. We won't go back there again.

Here's a bit of help to find if your place of choice is dog friendly or not...covers not only GA but NC, SC and other places on the Eastern seaboard. Just scroll down to the state/beach you like.

Holidaying with your Corgi -
06-28-2007, 08:43 AM
Hi ya'll, we just recently returned from a trip to Pinehurst, NC with our puppy Rosie. She did really great. We bought her a SOLVIT DELUXE PET BOOSTER CAR SEAT on Ebay which was great for her because she was safe in the back-seat with a built in restraint in the seat, she mostly curled up and slept. We found quite a long list of pet friendly hotels on Google--most Hampton Inns and Holiday Inn Express are pet friendly. Also her crate came along so keeping her in her own place for sleeping and while we ate at restaurants was good. We also would keep the car running (had two keys along) while we ate so that she could enjoy the air-conditioning and not experience any heat problems.
She was a very good traveler the whole way--but now that we are home she's seemed to have forgotten some our her previously learned lessons about potty training. Oh well, gotta love corgi's!
Happy day to all, Jane and John

Jane - so glad you folk and Rosie had such a good holiday. Those car seats for dogs sure take a lot of the concern away. Though I haven't got one. Taylor has a specific seat for himself in my Previa - which is a seven seat car. He loves looking out the window at all the sights and sounds. Your leaving the air conditioning and car running and the key in the ignition - I hope you lock the doors. With two keys this is possible.
The suburb just a hop and a step away from where I live is called Pinehaven. With pine forests a dominant feature of the area, it is aptly named.
