Exercise poll - 09-01-2006, 05:23 AM

The latest poll is based on exercising your Corgi. The results will be interesting and maybe a little revealing so please participate.

I will do a summary of the previous poll on feeding your Corgi. The results of this poll were extremely interesting.

Well, since Trevor is only 8 months old, he can't "officially" participate, but if he could, I would select choice #1, 30-60 minutes, as he gets two 20 minute walks per day, plus play time

Dcole,

this morning there was a poll for Corgis under 9 months old...and apparently that one has disappeared; don't know what happened there.

Linda and Deb - I tried to have two polls going at the same time - one for over 9 mths and one for under 9 mths but this site would not accept a 'rival.' So I went for the one which will have the greatest impact and is the more important - it is more important to regularise exercise for an older puppy and adult Corgi than a young fledging Corgi.

I wish we could do mix and match answers in the polls - I know we're supposed to pick the closest match, but sometimes it just doesn't fit well any which way!
I do like them though Michael, thanks!

Deb - I could have added more options but I thought the major ones were covered. And now it is too late. Sorry.

No worries Michael - I just meant for a lot of us that work we may have a routine on workdays and then do something different on weekends and holidays. It is interesting to see what people do though.

Deb - my exercise habits with Taylor also differ at weekends. I usually take Taylor for a very lengthy walk/run off-lead on one of the weekend days - weather permitting.

I picked playtime inside my property with 30 minute walk but actually Sassy probably gets more exercise in my property than anything as she has 2 acres fenced and a doggy door with access unlimited except when I go to sleep (as I work from home from 8 p.m. till 4-5 a.m.) she has 2 soccer balls which we play on a daily basis and of course her pool (which will soon be put away as it is turning cooler). So I would say she gets oodles of exercise just not walks persay.

Barbara - I was going to save this until I did a summary of the poll results - but just to respond to what you and Sassy get up to on your property: the vast majority of Corgis will not play on a large property on their own account. So it means nothing at all if they live on a large property or a small one. But if the family treat the property as a play area in unity with a Corgi then that is a little different. So ball games and fetching and chasing etc for upwards of 30 minutes a day takes care of half the amount of quality exercising a Corgi needs. Corgis are intently interested in going places and seeing and scenting, so walks and romps away from home are a must.

Chip turned nine months old today (boy how time flys) so I picked the yard. Chip and Maybelle run and play off and on all day long in our acre yard when we are home. If we aren't home, of course, they are in the house resting up for the next round.

Just thought that I would put in my two cents, I'm a writer and work out of the home so Miss Gambler has adopted a lot of my habits, both good and bad. She was just two months old when she discovered that Mommy has a late night snack, and ever since, she refuses to go to bed until she has that snack with me! I always travel with her, I could never leave her, and I go to Las Vegas for work a lot and she makes that long drive with me. I have had to be creative with her exercise to make it easy for both of us, and since I have a treadmill, and all hotels do as well, I put her on the treadmill a few times a day, she loves it, and I have never had to attach her to it in any way, just turn it on and tell her "Up". This makes me feel a little better for all the late night treats we share!
