Walking clubs - 08-21-2007, 03:45 AM

Got some national publicity in New Zealand on the Wellington Welsh Corgi Walking Club and received an email today from a woman who wants to start a walking group/club in Christchurch for Spaniels and their owners etc. This person wanted me to give her some ideas and tips, So I sent her quite a bit of info and advice. It is great if this catches on especially in capturing people and dogs who are not part of other dog recreational/sport activities.

I agree! Just think of the health benefits of dog walking. For the dogs and their owners or in some cases just anyone who likes to join a social group could borrow a dog from someone who is not inclined to walk and exercise their dog. The vast majority of the dogs in my neighborhood are never seen outside, never mind, walking. If I knew my neighbors I would volunteer to take the dogs for a walk if they were managable.
Once I saw a woman walking eight dogs of various sizes, most on leashes, at a park. It can be done, but I don't think I am up to that. ( off the subject a bit)
So Michael, when is the segment of TV that was taped of the Wellington Corgi Club to be aired? Have you heard anything yet? Do you have a tape of the event?

Certainly it is a way of ordinary people with a dog or dogs to become social and mix in with others of like mind where they and their dogs get in some pretty good exercise and hopefully will become a way of life in the way people exercise their dogs.
That particular publicity on the WWCWC was a small article I wrote for a nationally distributed magazine on pets, called Met Pet, and was circulated only last week. It had my contact details with the item.
