I wish we had a Corgi walking group here also. I have seen 2 corgis in our town in the 5 years that I have lived here.

Kelly,
Is your avatar a picture of your current Corgi?; I remember you saying you were looking for possibly a rescue Corgi when you joined a while back?

Kelly ~ Just looked at your images. Raffy is very cute. One more month, huh? I know you are excited. Can't wait to hear more about Raffy!

Hi Kelly,

We have just started a meet-up group for Corgis here in Toronto. We have a spot on Yahoo where people post if they want to get together. It was started purely by word of mouth. I met a couple of Cardis in a park and exchanged email addresses with their folks, and they've told others and so on. I know the lady who has my girl Jemma's half sister, so she set up the group for us.

I have thought of putting an ad in a local dog paper and may do so. So I suggest you set up an internet group area somewhere then you can start it growing - get people on it, then communicate to the whole group.

Maybe we'll get another member from Hawaii here and something will get started - or you could always paddle over to New Zealand and join Michael's group!

Linda,
Yes, the Avatar is my new Corgi. He's coming to us from St. Anthony's Canine Rescue in Lomita, CA. Arleen Rooney runs it and has been rescuing Corgis and Corgi mixes for over 20 years. She has been wonderful to work with and has even been keeping Raffy in her home during his 120 day quarantine period. With the Hawaii laws if he does his quarantine period on the mainland he will be a direct release to me on arrival. He's a special needs dog as he has dry eye and will need medicine for the rest of his life. When we saw him and his story on line and also on Corgi Aid we fell in love with him. He was found on the streets and had terrible problems with his eyes but even after everything he has been through he has such a sweet personality. I went to meet him in November and he acts just like any other Corgi. Full of life and thinks he's the center of everyone's life! He's already a part of the family. We send him presents, (and of course extras for the other rescues), have his pictures in the house and at work-guess you could say we are really looking forward to his arrival!

Deb,

Thanks for the suggestions. I took a look at meetup.com and Yahoo Groups today. There were some good suggestions there for getting a group started. I'll see what I can do as I know there are a few Corgis here (at least 12 that I know of) so it will be a matter of getting the word out. Glad to hear that you have a group in Toronto. Sounds like your group is off to a good start and I'm sure it will continue to grow. You know us Corgi people-never met a stranger!

Well, it is now official and the Wellington Welsh Corgi Walking Club that I started less than three years ago, is now a real club with a president (me) and a secretary-treasurer. I am going to register the club with the NZ Kennel Club and we will become the first ever walking/social dog club in New Zealand to be officially associated with the NZKC. We will be under the heading of a 'service' club/organisation and therefore will not have to pay any fees to the NZKC but we will get valuable promotion - in print in their monthly magazine and on their website. And if anything interesting crops up such as commercial use of Corgis in the Wellington region, we will be notified first. Also if Corgi rescue is required in our region, we will also be the starting point. There could be a number of spinoffs. Our membership currently is 20 families and some 30-33 pure bred Corgis (one might be a Pem-Cardi cross).

How wonderful for the both of you. I bet you can't wait until he arrives home.

Hey Ace, if you're ever in Houston, Liam and I will join you. We're off for a stroll to the bayou now. I usually tease him that the gators will be looking for sausage for supper. We were calling Liam a weiner dog until he went to play with my friend's dox. That's the weiner, so Liam is now the sausage. When he's bad, he's the brat-worst. Yesterday he chewed up my husband's rare size 15 rubber slipper.

Good on you, Michael. Great to see this happen, even if we haven't managed to get along to any of the walks yet.

Clogs -To get you and Rosie along we will have to think up a boat trip. Any ideas for our April walk and social.

Boat!?!?!?

'scuse me...

*blurk*

No, not boats. I'm not a boat person. All that watery up and down stuff. And before you protest, a kayak is not a boat.

Seriously, getting to a walk is a moveable feast. The demands on our time are sudden and inevitable.
