You can see the stats for Pembroke Welsh Corgis - ranked 23rd in their registrations in the U.S. for 2004 and 2005 with Cardigans coming in at 79. Last edited by corgimom; 10-31-2006 at 12:52 PM. |

This is a cool thread- I loved the photos of the corgis and the queen..very cool. So I thought i would share the Tasha Tudor website if anyone was interested in her, she not only has written books that incorporate the corgis but she also has done the illustrations in the books and has some art work on her site including corgis. I think she is an amazing woman. Her website is www.tashatudorandfamily.com

Sweetly - Corgis are at their most popular in the USA - not England and certainly not Ireland.
Linda - Pems are 23rd on the list of AkC registrations in the USA which is fairly high up since there are some 332 recognised breeds of dogs in the world, but is probably no reflection on the true popularity of Corgis in the USA. For instance, there are around 120,000 registered dogs currently living in NZ and this is no where near the total number of dogs in the country (515,000). The 12 most popular breeds in NZ is very different to the 12 most popularly bred dogs in any one year via NZKC registrations. Last edited by Michael Romanos; 10-31-2006 at 05:16 PM. |

The herd of Corgis also explain why the Queen carries a big purse. She actually explained, after years of refusing to, what she carries around in those oversized bags. She said that she carries their snacks, and a squeaky toy or two. She can't be all that bad if she loves her babies that much. Also, Her corgis routinely bite the staff, and attack other dogs.

Also, the Queen was raised with Corgis. Her Mother, The Queen Mum, has her own herd. The photo that was posted on this thread of the Queen's butler shows two of the Queen Mum's Corgis. I love researching the royal family's love affair with Corgis.

http://www.popmatters.com/pm/film/re...he-queen-2006/ Is anyone planning on seeing "The Queen"?, I think we will get a glimpse of some Corgis in the film I was looking at some other reviews also, and it sounds as if there is a scene with them.

The Queen's love affair with corgis began in 1933 when her father bought a corgi puppy from Thelma Gray (Rozavel) as a playmate for his daughters Elizabeth and Margaret. The royal corgis well known behaviors are wonderful press for the LCS (Lesser Corgi Society) and a big reason that at least among the general population in Britain corgis are not that popular. Charles De Gaulle is another head of state who has owned a Pembroke.
Larry Sullivan, a stage and screen actor, is another famous corgi owner. One of his corgis, Quest traveled with him aboard ship and by train between NY and CA regularly. Quest also brought noted writer Dorothy Parker to her knees for conversation in an elevator on one occasion. Children's illustrator and writer Tasha Tudor has been mentioned. These are some of the historical beginnings of celebrities and corgis. Debbie |

You will all be proud to know I won the office costume contest yesterday as...
The Queen. Couldn't bring in the real dogs, but I keep "Hamish", my Douglas Cuddle Toy Corgi in my office, so he was a standin. I did have two medals on my sash with photos of Rupe and Jemma in them. (FYI - I am wearing make-up for aging purposes and that is a wig!)

I love Dick King Smith...He writes wonderful childrens chapter books that are great for my lower readers. I teach fourth grade and we use his book, A Mouse Called Wolf, in a novel unit that we do. He is the man who wrote the book Babe, the Galliant Pig, which turned into a fabulous movie, BABE. I didn't know he wrote that...I am so getting that for my classroom library. Thanks so much for finding and sharing that!
Sorry! This is in response to the book that Linda (corgimum) showed. I realized I didn't post the quote, woops! |
