Meet Mieko -
02-28-2007, 08:33 PM
After the recent sudden loss of my Tiramisu kitty, I was in no way searching for another cat....until I fell for a sad kitty story about a little black and white kitten. He was a stray and went to a home but the other kitties didn't like him so he ended up back at the rescue.
So now I have him. He is 8 mo. old and his name is Mieko. He is a pill.
Milo isn't too sure what to make of this kitty. Mieko has scratched Milo's snout at least 3 times. (I had to use Neosporin w/pain relief, poor baby). So we are adjusting to this little terror. It's nice to have a kitty around. I think.

What a pretty kitty, but poor Milo's snout I'm sure Mieko will fit in soon enough and be just another member of the family! Congrats on your new addition.

Congrats on rescueing Mieko- I would suggest ( being one who had 4 cats, sadly now I am down to two) keeping mieko's nails clipped as best you can so that poor Milo doesnt end up getting scratched badly. I know it must hurt, the neighbor's cat who has the longest sharpest little nails i have ever seen, wacked Dillon on the nose ( Dillon ran up to this cat, who lives with a dog and is not afraid of them, and he pushed him right over, and so the cat, fearing for his life I am sure, smacked him good!) The neosporin should keep things clean in the mean time... I am so sure they will get along , just takes time... My two kitties instantly liked Gus they both find him to be a breath of fresh air ( Dillon chases them, no matter how hard i have tried to break this, Gus just walks up and sniffs them and then leaves them alone and never ever chases them!)
Glad you were able to open your heart and home to this cute little kitty...

How wonderful for you all and for Mieko!! I always say we find dogs, cats find us!! I have a wonderful tuxedo named Tucker who absolutely adores the dogs - snuggles them, baths them, lets them chew him - I LOVE having cats and dogs together and seeing them interact!!
Won't take long until Mieko understands that Milo won't hurt him and they'll be pals!!

Congratulations on your new kitty
I love having cats and dogs together and they can get along wonderfully (and we know that it is always when the cat decides it is the right time)
One thing I had read when introducing a new cat into the household with other pets was to give treats to them at the same time when they were nearby so they would associate "pleasant things happening " when they are in each others company.

B&W Tuxedos are my personal fav. Lucky you with a new kitty. Mittens, my first kitty as a child was one. And later my crooked-legged big Boinka boy was too. Currently we have a Texas Gully Cat (a large grouchy himalayan manx mix barn cat) and a fluffy white prissy Katrina rescue by the same name. Both boss Liam with growls and hisses, and he thinks they are playing with him. We try to tell him they HATE him, but he laughs it off and keeps trying to herd them.

Emilie,
You know I am such a knucklehead sometimes, I had Mieko for about a week before it occurred to me to clip those little claws. They are like tiny fish hooks. Finally I had an epiphany (after the 2nd application of Neosporin to Milo's nose) to clip the claws! Mieko was surprisingly compliant and let me do it. I did teach Milo to not chase kitties or bark at them and he is a good boy about that.
He lets Mieko go into his toy box and take toys, except for a favorite that Mieko was attempting to carry off one day. Milo walked up and gently removed it from Mieko and walked away, put down the toy and layed on top of it!! The message was clear in that action!
They are so much fun to watch as the interact with each other. I love to have dogs and cats together!
Thanks for the well wishes!

You are certainly not a knucklehead, I forget from time to time about claws, until someone starts kneading on me and nearly pokes a hole in me! I try to do everyone's nails at the same time...it worked great when i had only cats, becuase i would do one set of nails and some curious cat would come over to see what was going on, and i would snag that kitty and start clipping, and the next would come to see...very easy... now with the dogs, i do their nails and the cats have already gone and hidden ...so now i just catch kitties and do their nails at different times and not when i do the dogs... never a dull moment here LOL
Milo let Mieko know for sure that this was HIS toy! LOL how cute! i do love the interaction between cats and dogs - i just wish Dillon was more like Gus with the cats...mellow and nice, not chasing and poking!

Mieko kneads Milo -
03-06-2007, 08:51 PM
Mieko has taken to kneading Milo. Milo isn't so sure this is a good thing. Milo can hardly walk through a room without Mieko rubbing and rubbing him. Kitty just wants to love and snuggle. Milo will lick Mieko's head and ears and the purr-o-meter revs up to 10! He just loves attention from Milo.

Milosmom ~ What a great picture! I knew they'd get along great! One of our cats that passed away last summer would knead your neck. Great massage!
