Riley, my little girl. 2000 - 2006 - 07-26-2006, 07:12 AM

Riley left us too early, at 5 1/2 she had so much more time left to enjoy her life. She adored swimming beyond any "water" dog you could imagine and we spent lots of time with her at the lake, river and creek so she would be happy. She was a big "sister" to Rupert and he loved her and counted on her to help him everyday - she was the boss of him and that was okay by Rupe.

Riley was my first dog and will never be replaced or forgotten. We may add a new dog to our family one day, but that will be to honour Riley and share the love and companionship of dogs.

Deb,

That was lovely, I can tell you miss her so. I am sorry you have had to go through this and know it is difficult for you.

You gave her a fulfilling life in her short time here on earth - she enjoyed her
love of water to its fullest.

Our animals leave such an imprint in our lives when they are gone; the loss of
their daily presence is felt so deeply.

I can't imagine how much you miss Riley. Find comfort in the fact that she can now play in the water as much as she pleases and is no longer in pain. You did everything you could for her, and I'm sure she knows this. Give Rupert a big hug and remember the good days.

Thanks ladies, everyday gets easier, but then I'll have a bad patch. Rupe is still mopey and not himself. He decided yesterday he won't eat in his usual spot - he wants to eat where I fed Riley. I wish I knew what he was feeling so I could help him more. I think that there will be a new companion for him a few months down the road.

Deb,
I was so sorry to hear about Rileys passing - I thought about her often while we were on vacation.

All pets are missed but sometimes we are blessed with that special one that will remain in our hearts forever. You had that special bond with Riley.

The picture you have of her on the boat is such a great memory to have - you can see the joy on her face.

((((hugs))))

The ony real thing that is going to cheer you up a little is to think of the near future and the puppy that will eventually come along to keep you, Rupert and the family occupied, enthralled and comforted. Indeed not everyone can be so lucky as to be in a position to experience another dog - perhaps in your case, another beautiful Corgi.

I lost my very first Pem, Chi Chi, to a brain tumor when he was aged under two -and he was a real show piece but his undetected tumor precluded him from acting correctly at a show- he would get ring shy - and no one knew why at the time. And did he love swimming. He would dive into rapids in rivers.

Riley will be forever missed, forever young and Rupert will never forget her. She is in his dreams. To want to eat from where her food bowl was positioned, is to honour her. Another of Rupert's wonderful gestures.
