Pwcca National Specialty - 03-18-2007, 08:46 PM

This event is a few miles from my house in Sept.2007. I may go just to look and see what it is like.
Does anyone know what will be there? Do you know what kind of events will be there? It's apparently a few days.

Corgis, corgis and more corgis!!!

You can find a schedule of events on this page:
PWCCA National Specialty Show Information 2007

At the show site in RI there will be a conformation dog show, Pembroke Welsh Corgis only. There will also be agility and obedience at that site. Those events will be before the conformation. Herding and tracking will be at other sites. Check the schedule of events on the site above.

The events at the show site will be about 5 days or so.

And of course there will be corgi related items on sale there too.

Peggy (nope I won't be there, too far away... )

Peggy , can people bring their corgis to a national? I was just wondering... We dont live far from RI ( we are in CT) and would be interested in going for a day - but only if we could take the boys with us... so do you know if that sort of thing is frowned on or is it ok?

Hi Emilie,
Usually dog shows have a clause that says "no un-entered dogs allowed on the show grounds". So now is the time to get those handsome kids ready to get a CD by next year. Then they can go as "entered" dogs! Good luck.

Dillon could be entered for a CD, he wont make it yet but i could still enter him, but poor gus, well, when he was a show dog, they didnt bother teaching him anything but walking nicely on a leash and coming when he was called. He has wonderful manners but doesnt know commands.. I have taught him to sit since we have gotten him and he heels beautifully but not on command, he just walks that well on a leash. he needs to learn to sit when i stop, i have so much work to do, sigh.... and i wont be able to go if the boys can't come, too bad, i would have loved to go...

I will remember to bring the digital camera. I found out that two of the tracking locations are a very short drive for me also.

Emilie,

Technically no, meaning yes, it would be frowned on. Every show usually states that there should be no unentered dogs. However, AKC rules also state that if the dog is eligible to be entered in the show then it can be on the grounds.

Eligible to be entered means that the dog must be purebred, over 6 mos. old and registered with the AKC.

However, there will be so many corgis there to see, that I would recommend that you leave yours home. That way you can take pictures, talk with people, visit with some of the dogs, ect. and your dogs won't be put out by not getting the attenion. Just bring her a treat home to them and they'll be thrilled.

Peggy

Go to Block Island !

The best way to see Block Island is by bicycle or moped. But, you can rent a car to take the dogs with you. See the Southeast Light, go up in the light to the top. Walk the dogs leashed (bird nesting area) out to the North light. The car does not quite go all the way to the North light. If you can do many, many, stairs go down to the beach at Mohigan Bluffs. Even If you can't do the stairs you can look down from the top. If the dogs are good in small boats you can rent boats of all kinds. Just about everything to know about Block Island is on line.
Plenty of places to let the dogs in the water and go swiming. Eat at "The Oar" so you can see Old Harbor. It's a huge protected harbour with many big boats. Don't just stay near the ferry and see the stores, that would be a shame, get a car and see the island. Plenty of maps available on line and at the island. I can drown you with photos if you like.
