Strangest Place You've Seen a Corgi... - 11-22-2006, 09:16 AM

I had to start this thread, as I saw a Corgi in the strangest place last recently...

It was last weekend, in Manhattan, driving up 6th avenue with all the usual craziness of NYC traffic going on around us.

We were stopped in traffic when TO OUR SURPRISE WE SEE... a roller blader skating into traffic down the side of the street ... WITH A CORGI RUNNING (happily, it seemed...) behind him on leash.

I know many people have dogs in the city, but roller blading with your dog was something I've not seen before. You can imagine how fast the corgi's short little legs were going to keep up with it's owner!

Good thing our corgis have that deep barrelled chest which is there to help with the endurance rigors of a day herding the masters flock or herd. I don't think a poodle or similar dog would have the same endurance, but I could be all wet on that one.

This is not strange but it is frustrating for me. Three times now in the three years I've had Taylor, a woman driver in a car has the back seat passenger's window open with a pretty/handsome Pem Corgi poking his/her head out and calling to Taylor, has flashed past us obviously visiting someone in the suburb. Twice now I've kind of indicated to the driver that I want her attention. But she has never stopped. Here is hoping when the next occasion occurs.

\Corgis are not long distance sprinters - they can belt it out for 150 metres and leave most human sprinters in their wake, sure they can run pretty fast for maybe 600 metres but to boot along past that kind of distance without a short rest break would not be a Corgis idea of fun.

I agree with you Michael, I don't picture Corgis as the happiest/best of long distance runners. Goodness knows Foxy would much rather sprint a short while than jog for a longer time...so I don't understand why someone would want to train one to run behind while roller blading.

I apologize for bringing up an old thread, but just had to comment here. There's a gorgeous area here in Las Vegas, it's called Red Rock Canyon, and Miss Gambler loves to go walking there. She's the like the energizer bunny there, she keeps going and going, I guess it's curiosity, wanting to see what's around the next rock or cliff. She outlasts me.
