I wasn't going to get a corgi. Don't faint! I had lost my beloved toy poodle through a tragic accident the week before Mothers Day and was in deep mourning. I had been looking at a phantom toy poodle pup on a website my daughter told me about and was seriously contemplating getting him. Then Cheryl (Checkers and Gators Mom) told me to check out the corgi puppies advertised on the same site. The story and the pictures in the ad sold me. The mama dog died giving birth (4th pup got stuck) before they could get her to the vet. So I knew Delilah and her brothers had been completely hand raised. Lucky to be alive!

After flying from Atlanta, GA to Salt Lake City, UT and then driving to the state line of Utah and Idaho, I got to see my baby for the first time. She was a bundle of wiggles! We played with her and let her play with Checkers in a park next door to the restaurant we met the breeders at. I gave them a check and we proceeded directly to the first PetsMart! LOL

We got back to Cheryl's house about 4 hrs after I landed in SLC! As you can see from the picture @ dogster, we were pooped! She amazed all of us the first couple of days.....no accidents in the house, and playing with Checkers WOW!!!

She has seriously wormed her way into my heart and healed the brokenness. If I had the room (my own place -hehehe), there would be more corgis! I guess I am hooked.

The first time I saw Chip I was still in a state of shock after losing my precious Digger only the week before. As everyone knows my sister bought me Chip as a gift so we drove the 7 1/2 hours to pick him up and I kept thinking "what am I doing" Well when we arrived, the breeder immediately handed me Chip and he snuggled right up against me and was shaking all over and scared to death. He gave me two little kisses on the cheek and just kept shaking. The breeder kept saying that she didn't know what was wrong with him because he had never acted that way before. I thought to myself this is definitely not the way a corgi pup is supposed to act and I almost didn't take him BUT I felt so sorry for him because he was so scared. Now I don't know what was up but as soon as Chip was in my car and headed home, he stopped his shaking & being afraid and has never done that since and I have never regretted my decision to bring him home. Chip is pawsitively perfect.

I should have spotted a future Mayor at 20 paces. After greeting me, Tuck (10 weeks old) proceeded to greet everyone he met, thoroughly checcking them out.

I flew him home, had drove Northwest Airlines nuts with 5 calls assuring me they would allow him to be carried on!

Going thru the security check points was a hoot!

Bin Laden could have been in line behind me and no one would have noticed. Can I hold him? What kind of dog is he? Oooooh! It was almost comical.

Bonnie's post reminded me that friends had prepared me that new puppies often cry and carry on the first few nights in a new home. I was prepared for it.

When we left the breeder and her 8 year old son who clearly Tuck had attached himself to, he had a funny look on his face then 2 seconds later he was off to conquer the world.

After 2 flights we landed in Albany. I had him in his travel crate and he cried as if frightened as we drove home. I sang to him and he cried as if to say "please stop!". Just kidding!

That night I put him in his crate on a nightstand touching my bed, and turned the lights off. He cried for maybe 2 minutes, shattered my heart, then went to sleep. Haven't heard him cry since.

Lulu's breeder lives maybe 5 miles from me if that. I went to meet Lulu and discuss adding her to my family w/o Tucker. We then got the two together at Petsmart to meet a week before Lu was to come home. She was very shy and timid, Tucker wanted nothing to do w/ her, paid attention to everyother living thing in the store but Lulu.

The day I went to pick her up I took Tuck. We went into the breeder's house and it was Tuck, Lulu, andher littermate/sister. The two girls terrorized him! They were ruthless! I thought this is one changed puppy!

Tuck was never mean to her but it was clear that he wanted nothing to do with this yippy little pup. After two days of Lulu trying to get Tucker to play w/ her, he finally started engaging her in play. I knew we would be alright!

Susan:

Chip never cried at all. Dale on the other hand, I have posted that it was love at first sight and he sat in his pen next to me the whole time I was fooling with the other pups and then they wandered off to take a nap but not Dale. When we went to get a pup, it was still Dale that stole my heart so I brought him home. I have a picture of Dale in his little red sweater holding Chip's leash in his mouth as they walk down the hallway single file heading for the car. Dale made a statement - he was going home with us. Dale only cried until Chip forced me to put him on the bed and he snuggled down and has slept there every since. Some things are just meant to be. although big brother Chip is still a little jealous. Even though they are full brothers they are very different personalities and Dale thinks his brother is the greatest thing since ice cream.

Ada first... This is the first time I saw little Ada: It was the 6 week old photo the breeder sent me... I was hooked instantly!

Ilsa was a cutie. The first photo I got of her was a stacked photo (she did NOT want to stand on the table, and she was looking very grumpy!) but then I got some cuter shots.

With Momma Kona...

Ilsa, just being herself. Gawd, I love baby Ilsa pics!

Lastly, Ronin. I didn't know he was going to be mine in the end... we had just happened to be visiting the breeder at the time of his litter. Who would have known that eighteen months later, this little whippersnapper would be MINE! He was a butthead, even at 5 weeks of age!

I deffinatly remember the first time I saw my Jenny Chompers ^_^

It was last year... We had a chihuahua that I got for my birthday a few years before... but she had bonded with my mom, and really wanted nothing to do with me. So, I had wanted a dog of my own for awhile...
I had been looking for the 'perfect' dog for me for quite some time... I told my mom about the Corgi's and that I had been reading up on them. She just said "We don't need another dog right now."
The next week she came home and said she had a surprise for me. She gave me a number and told me to call... The lady asked if I was Holly, then immediatly started asking me questions... Ended up, she had a litter of Pembroke Corgi's...
The next day me and my mom drove out to her farm.

At first we had a hard time looking for the ladies house... that is, until a corgi shot across the front yard.
So we got out of the car, and walked around back. I had never seen a corgi in real life... just pictures... but soon as I saw them, I fell in love with them.
There were only two pups left. A male and a female.
The little boy was huge... super fat... really hyper... but extremly friendly.
The little girl just seemed to sit off by herself, because she was small and her brother bullied her out of the way for attention.
So I went and picked her up... She was so sweet, and almost immediatly fell asleep in my arms...

So thats the one I picked.

And thats how I ended up with my Jenny Chompers!

Though... now, shes no where near as quiet as she was then...
