A new corgi friend -
03-22-2007, 10:20 AM
I was walking Owen in my neighborhood a couple of days ago when I heard a woman shout "Look, a corgi!" She pulled over, jumped out with her 5 month pemmie and began to talk about how wonderful corgis are. She told me she had seen a corgi puppy at her daughter's soccer match in the fall and thought he was so adorable that she started researching the breed and got her puppy in December. I realized that the puppy she met at the soccer games was Owen and I suddenly felt so responsible....but she is clearly a loving corgi mom and tells me that training is coming along really well. We plan to get the two boys together at the dog park when Owen is a little more recovered from his surgery since they had so much fun tangling up their leashes.

I wish there were more Corgis where we live. Sassy loves other dogs when we go camping and out places but we are rural and there are no dog parks or social events. I am actually thinking of getting another Corgi so they will have each other for companionship. There is an elderly lab which walks by our house everyday but Sassy shys away from her and I am not sure why, she is not aggressive toward Sassy or anything. I think Sassy needs better social skills.
Let us know how the play date goes, Sassy is envious.

That chance encounter involving Owen is a good news item and I hope it draws out the two Corgis and their families getting together and somewhere down the line, perhaps influencing others.

I'm the same as you, bajoiner. I haven't seen corgis in my area, even though I know that there are breeders nearby. Of course, my work schedule doesn't help much. There isn't a dog park around here to take Duncan and the neighbor dogs are large. Duncan doesn't like dogs bigger than him and gets scared. But, get one his size, and he's happy as a lark.

Hooray - Corgi friends!!! That's great for you and Owen and the new friend. I hope they become fast friends and get to play often. It's so important to have their dog friends and be able to play in their natural style. I like having two Corgis for that reason, they both play with other dogs - but when they play with Corgis - it's a certain style! Also saw that when we got the 5 dogs together in CT - it was a blast!

We are lucky. Owen has a fluffy corgi buddy that we look after sometimes--they are a scream frapping around the house. I know there are other corgis in Old Town, but since Owen's surgery has sidelined him for a while we haven't searched them out yet. If there is anyone on this forum around Northern Virginia, let me know. Maybe we can organise a corgi picnic here!
