You're right that signage is taking over and it's ugly. The Auckland City Coincil is going to ban hoardings from their city and surrounding district. Where I live the Upper Hutt City Council (which in effect is pro-dog) have put up signs in all their many parks and reserves stating that "This is a clean air area and all smoking is prohibited." Of course the proclaimations cannot be enforced until the day that cigarette smoking is banned. But the signs are just another kind of junk.
