My First Trip to the Dog Park - 11-17-2007, 05:45 PM

Hi everyone. This is Charlie the Corgi. I'm typing this story for Mom because she is really tired from taking me to the dog park today. I don't know what a headache is, but she has one. We were supposed to go to the dog park last weekend, but Mom said the alternator broke and we couldn't go anywhere until Monday. I don't know what an alternator is either, but maybe it's like a headache.

Anyway, this morning Mom was in a really good mood because she said it was supposed to rain in the morning and only be cloudy this afternoon. She kept telling me, "Charlie! We're going to the dog park today. It will be fun for Charlie!" I didn't think it sounded like much fun to be "parked" but it seemed to make Mom so happy, I wanted to give her a treat. So I just smiled and looked interested.

Later, Mom put my crate in that big green thing with wheels and said, "Charlie, are you ready??? We're going to the dog park!" Still not thinking being "parked" sounded too cool, I agreed to go anyway.

On the way down, I barked and barked and barked...and barked some more. I was trying to tell Mom that I couldn't really help her with directions because my crate was too low to see out the window. She ignored me, so I barked some more. It started sprinkling, then pouring down rain and Mom missed the exit. I barked some more. I would have told her which exit to take if I could've seen out the window.

After sitting in weekend Interstate traffic and missing the exit, we got turned around and got to the dog park. It was still pouring down rain; never seen that much water in my 5 months of life! Mom pulled up to the gate to try to read the sign and see if the park was open. One of the signs said "No Parking". Then the big green thing with wheels died. Mom mumbled something about the alternator, and rubbed her head. I just sat there and decided not to bark anymore. It wasn't much fun just "parking" though...I had wanted to tell her a dog "park" is not my idea of a good time.

Pretty soon a couple of other big things with wheels came to the park, but they weren't green like ours is. Mom got out of our green one and then took me out because it was only raining now, not pouring. What are jumper cables????

The rain lightened up a little more, and then the coolest thing happened. I got to meet about six other dogs! Our humans were all huddled together under a tree talking about the rain. It didn't bother us though. Not one bit. We just barely got to sniff each others butts to introduce ourselves, and then our humans starting whining "It's pouring again! We're going home!". Wimps! Hhrrrmmmmpphhh! I was just starting to have fun and was going to impress everyone with a quick frap.

Oh well, the driving part and parking part was just ok. The couple minutes meeting friends was really barrr-woooffabulous! Hope Mom will take me again...if she ever gets over her headache...er, and her alternator...whatever that means.
