Seven inch legs - 05-13-2008, 09:41 AM

It's easy to take for granted that a Corgi can't reach things you put on the table, and how handy that is. It's really nice.

This morning I walked in the room and my daughters dog (visiting) was standing on the formal dining room table eating the cat's food. On the good side, the cat vomited on my bed and he jumped up and ate it....yuck.

He's not quite twice as big as Bailey. Legs about twice as long. I'll keep the little dog, thank you very much.

LOL That's a funny story. I'll take the little dog too. I was always someways partial to dogs with docked tails after seeing too many friends' dogs wipe the coffee or end tables clean walking by with one whoosh of their tail. Upon getting Charlie, I've realized that even Cardigans are too short to reach the coffee table with their tail.

Ahhhhhh, but don't underestimate the reach ability of these short guys. <LOL> To make sure things are really out of reach, one must take the entire length when standing on back legs, stretched completely out (as if standing on tip toes) and factor in the tongue as well. Makes for an easy 3 1/2 to 4 foot reach easy.

I agree....don't underestimate what they can reach. I have a pair of shoes that were chewed up to vouch for that. I thought for sure that little puppy couldn't reach the top of the cedar chest to get to my shoes. Imagine my surprise when I came home and he was sitting there with the "look what I found" expression!!!

Yes Bailey can reach the edge of the high tables, good point.
After raising two kids, I automatically never put anything on the edge of any tables. I can't help it.
The normal size tail of my daughters dog is about the same height as Baileys face. He's not used to it yet, He has his eyes closed and has to blink a lot. It's literaly in his face. Poor guy.

I need to put on Bailey's doggles when "Hudson" comes to visit.

Doggles...........on the roll...

One New Years eve my parents friends were sitting on the couch in Tuxedos and Gowns before going out. The Lab came in and his tail hit the dip on the low coffee table. He plastered them with chip dip.

I find that Corgis are very curious and will stretch to see things - I haven't had a Corgi yet who has not stood on their back legs to see what's what on the dining or casual tables. But getting up on the table is another thing though they have all had the opportunity to jump up on a chair as a prelude to getting on a table.
At a cafe recently, Taylor stretched up to take a peek at the scones, jams and cream. And everytime he goes to the retirement village, his first stop is the staff room and stretching up to see what muffins staff are eating.

Corgis can definitely get to any coffee tables with their short little legs, given the right incentives

This happen to be sliced roast chicken. We were having dinner over the coffee table. From the other side of the table, I noticed pink long corgi tongue darting furiously towards my plate. Apparently Milo had partly climb onto the coffee table by propping his two front paws onto a small ledge by the side of the table and stretch even further with his tongue. Just a few more inches and he could have licked the chicken...hahaha.. if only I had a camera handy

don't forget, that if they can't reach it by standing they tend to have a vertical leap that makes up for their short legs.

Take a look at the recent blog posts on Cardi Corgi Capers by Russ
Yes, that is my dog and no I don't approve of his choice of chairs or tables to stand on. Moose was not using his public manners this weekend on our visit to puppy Russ' house. He and Fred kept jumping up on all the furniture.

Moose's grandma Phoebe is a mink and can climb bookshelves. Moose loves tables but the counter surfing in our house is reserved for the collies and their ugly long pointy noses.
