I am with you on that, and when Cody greets my husband, his entire butt
just wiggles, along with his stub. The neighbors get a kick out of his wiggle butt and it is always a sign to them(as I point out) that he is so very happy to see them. Linda |

I suppose if you're going to dock a dog's tail, you might as well do a good job of it. Taylor with nothing to show looks astetically better to me than a Pem showing a tail stump. Of course the 'rubber band' method of docking is superior to surgically chopping because it is infinitely much less painful - in fact I don't think a Corgi pup at three days old would feel much discomfort from the band method which creates numbness, and withers away the tail in a very short time.
However, with a tail stump, a Pem has something to wag when he/she is happy or excited. I think I have only seen Taylor wriggle his back once or twice - and that was as a pup. He is a very happy, outgoing dog most times and revels in meeting people but he just isn't a wriggler. All my other Corgis were. |

Hey Everyone,
I'm new here, and a fairly new Corgi owner. I'm in Texas...so it's HOT HOT HOT already. Rowdy has gone to the beach....hated it, and shows NO interest in a kiddie pool....any ideas/help out there. He doesn't like the water hose...well, only to chase it when I'm rolling it up, he's such a helper!!!!! Rowdy tolerates his monthly baths, in the house, but really interested in water at all. Thanks for any help. Theresa |

Teresa,
Hello to you. I am in Wisconsin. We are having a very warm weekend here. I also tried the baby pool with my 6 1/2 month old Corgi and he does not care for it. I thought maybe he would since he enjoys walking through puddles, but does not have any interest in it so far. I have been throwing his balls in his pool with hopes that he will jump in it, but he just leans over the edge to grab them - even tried the ice cubes in the pool, but still doesn't get him to go in. If I put him in, he jumps out - he was even holding one of his back legs up as if to say "I really don't care for this". Kind of like how some babies are when they first walk barefoot on grass. ha. Linda,
I did all those things as well, when he was a puppy, and same as you, he just didn't like it. Are you going to continue or just trash the thought? I trashed the thought, he's 3 now so I'm thinking, he's just not going to want to have water play in these hot summer months. Theresa |

What's that old saying........ You can lead a Corgi to water but don't expect him to want any.
Some Corgis feel that they can exist quite well without anything to do with water apart from quenching a thirst. Taylor enjoys his baths because he loves the attention, the massaging in of the shampoo and the concerted towelling afterwards. He paddles a little in the stream runnng through our property and occasionally paddles and drinks in streams and rivers - but anything else is no go. We went to a huge lake recently but for all intent and purpose it may as well been the Pacific Ocean as far as Taylor was concerned. And he still avoids all puddles on sidewalks etc. |

Cody likes the puddles, he doesn't mind that. That is why I thought he
would certainly like his pool. His pool will stay out there this summer and I will keep it clean - I think he thinks it is a big water bowl! I may try a sprinkler and see what he does - I am sure the neighbors will think I am nuts. Linda |

Some water sprinklers with the right kind of sprinkling patterns (nothing too heavy going) are a marvellous game for Corgis who like to play in water or with water. Every one should tryout a sprinling session with their Corgi at least once.

Abby loves playing in any sort of water, especially if there is any mud involved but alas, she has never seen a sprinkler working. Because of our very severe drought, sprinklers were banned a long time ago, and we have only been allowed to use hoses three days a week after 7PM.
Next month we go onto Stage 3 Water Restrictions which means no hoses for anything at all, buckets only allowed. Lawns are dead, also a lot of the plants. Some of the Dams are already dry, most others down to 30 per cent. Big discussions going on re de-salination etc. We are lucky that we can go down to the Bay, and I then rinse Abby off in the bathroom with a hand held shower (Water Saver Head). |

We had a small breakthrough yesterday when Cody jumped in his pool on his own to retrieve his ball. He actually stayed in there for a good 10 minutes, sticking his nose in and out of the water. Maybe there is hope after all!!.
I received his Animal Sounds Babble ball through the mail two days ago and he Absolutely loves it!! - he searches for it in his toy basket even though he has many other balls to choose from. Sometimes, my other family members are finding it a bit annoying when they are watching TV and all these animal sounds are going at the same time, but Cody pushes it and carrys it around and plays with it quite a bit - plus these are the newer generation Babble Balls that you can replace the batteries when needed. Linda - If Cody spent all of ten minutes in the water then he qualifies to be called a Water Baby. Next time he'll earn his flippers.
I have orders for eight babble balls and I contacted the firms you suggested and one of them is prepared to export to NZ. I am still hopeful of a local company selling them. I'll find out later this week. Katc - When my family and I were in Surfers just over three years ago, there was a lengthy drought on then but soon after we left - under two weeks, - it rained all weekend just when there was a big street car racing meeting. The rain wrecked the car racing but saved the population from having to put up with the horrible tap drinking water. In some parts of NZ they are thinking of exporting water but the climate change has done some weird things. |
