Beach Vacation - 05-23-2006, 08:31 PM

Hello Everyone:

I thought you would all be interested in our vacation. We drove to Pensacola Beach (12 hours) and Chip was his perfect self all the way (He loves to travel) only to find out no dogs allowed on the beach - if the beach patrol catches a dog on the beach it is a $600 fine strictly enforced. Needless to say we left the area and drove across the panhandle of Florida to Charleston, NC. Dogs are allowed on the beach there and the small beach we went to even had a container of puppy bags for cleaning up. Chip loved the beach but didn't like the water. We had a very good time and now Chip heads to the door everytime we start that way. He wants to go again. We wound up our vacation by attending the corgi picnic in Kingsport and Chip won the "Best Tail on a Pem" A perfect ending to a perfect week of vacation with a perfectly awesome Corgi.

Sounds like a fun time. I think I am going to break out the swim pool for
Cody this weekend since it is supposed to be close to 80. I will be anxious
to see if he likes going in the water.

Glad you found a beach that Chip could play on during normal daylight hours. Beaches and dogs go together even when they don't like swimming or even paddling.

Did Chip win best Pem tail because of the real thing or did you have to attach an artificial tail to his rear.

I recently spied a Pem with a real tail and it was quite a nice one.

We have decided that he most likely has a real tail. It is relatively short with a black tip on the end. I am going to email the breeder and ask but it doesn't seem likely that his tail was docked. Chip has a real nice stubby little tail about an inch long. I will try to post a picture for you. It is oh so cute when he waggles it. You are absolutely right, there is nothing better than enjoying your dog on the beach. We are hoping to ride the ferries from Virginia Beach to Moorehead City in October. Chip has now been in 7 states and quite the little traveler. Not bad for 4 1/2 months old.

We were unable to make the picnic, I was so dissapointed......

We have an 18 yr old son, need I say more ???? No seriously he's a wonderful kid who has made some bad choices so we needed to stay home.

We also didnt want to get Egan out just yet, too young and hasnt had all his shots yet.

Chips mom I wich I had known thats were you were going I could have told you that Pensacola, panama city, destin, none of those area's allow dogs.

http://www.petvr.com/index.php/pages...lyBeaches.html

This website will bost the top ten dog friendly beaches, as well as other house, condo rentals that also allow pets. We went to Ameila Island, Fl. Last yr, The beaches there allowed dogs, it was a great area.

Hi Cindy:

We looked for you Sunday. Teenagers can be a worry. I have grown children but both boys were teenagers once so I completely understand. We may go to the one in NC so maybe we can meet then. I know what you mean about keeping your baby away from areas until more shots are given. Chip has all of his vaccinations but I found 3 puppies in a field Monday night (they are in my garage) poor things were starving to death but I do not allow Chip anywhere near them and I still worry. I am taking them to my vet Friday for shots anyway and will try to find good homes for all three.

Cindy,

an 18 year old son - and needed to stay home - I can relate in many ways, a
14 year old daughter who sometimes thinks she's 20 - and a 16 year old son(he's my easy one)

Chip's mom.

You found three puppies? - what kind? So someone obviously dumped them
there? - that is the most awful thing to do!! I have no idea how someone
walks away from that and then sleeps at night.

Such an angel you are to have found them, taken them in to care for them
and find them good homes.

Thank you for saying that but we only did what any animal lover would do. I think they are german shepard or chow mix, about 5 - 6 weeks old and literally starving. I am taking them to the vet on Friday for puppy shots, worming and check ups. Hopefully, we will find good homes soon. It is very hard to find good homes though. I would say that they were dumped. My husband said they had been there all that day in an open field without water or food. No mom to be found. It amazes me too what some people will do with animals and still sleep at night. Pray we can find good homes. I am going to stipulate that they must have vet care when I find the homes and hope the people will do what they agree too.

Chips mom,

We had a sitution like that his past fall not far from me when the temperatures at night were already in the freezing zone. Some couple had found some lab/mix pups in a very isolated area. She wrote an editorial in the paper saying "well to whoever thought you got rid of your pups, guess what - we found them!" This couple had went hiking and came across these poor babies.

People who do such a thing to puppies are as bad as they come . Sorry, I got off the purpose of this thread.

Chips mom,

You mentioned NC, is it a dog show or agility? When is it ?

I am sending you prayers that you find good homes for the stray pups, I am glad an animal lover found them, huggs to Chips mom.

I dont blame you for being cautious with Chip and the pups, I would too.

I am tickled you guys enjoyed your beach vacation, Darci doesnt care for the water either but loved to play in the sand.

Corgimom, The good lord knew what he was doing when he only gave us 1 child. WHEW.......... It's been tough... Maybe this is meant to be part of my faith and testimony someday.

Chip's Mom - back to tails on Pems. All the Pems I've seen with tails (whole) have had substantial tails. In fact rivalling the Cardis for length but not drooping like the Cardis and not so well feathered. Some people and vets who dock Pems tails don't do a very good job - they leave too much behind in not usng the rubber band method which is by far the best. So you have Pems who seem to have some kind of tail when it should be a very close 'shave.' Taylor has nothing left that can move.
