Good Reading

I just returned from my trip, where I read a GREAT Corgi/dog book called "Puppy Kisses are Good for the Soul." I highly recommend this book to Corgi owners. Just be warned: like all great dog books, it will make you cry at the end.

I also read "Marley & Me" which is about a Lab, not about a Corgi, but still fun nonetheless and will also make you cry at the end.

Does anyone have any other books about Corgis or dogs that are favorites?

I have wanted to read Marley and Me, but have not gotten around to it yet.

There is a book called the Courageous Corgi by Lea Herrick - that says it
is for all ages? Has anyone read this?

Puppy Kisses is WONDERFUL! It is on my recommended reading list on the general corgi info sheet I send home with my fosters.

Ace, the Very Important Pig has a corgi in it and is a good children's book, fun for adults too.

Finding Mr. Right by Emily Charmichael is a hoot, kind of a romantic comedy. A Pem is a main character and it is written by a Pem owner. I haven't had time to get others in the series, but they're all supposed to be good.

I like the Holly Winter series of murder mysteries by Susan Conant. Malamutes are her breed, but each book "features" a different breed as a part of the plots.

I also like the Melanie Travis series (Standard Poodles) and Carol Lea Benjamin's murder mysteries (her training books are great too).

For a slightly darker and science fiction slant, Doranna Durgin's A Feral Darkness is really good. It features a Cardigan (she's a Cardi owner). And speaking of great names for corgis, she had one name Jean-Luc Picardigan.

The Tasha Tudor Corgiville books are delightful.

I think I got outbid on the Heroic Corgi on the last big CorgiAid auction, so don't have that.

And I am definitely a Mrs. Murphy fan - the Rita Mae Brown/Sneaky Pie Brown series we were talking about in the Other Movie thread.

Other great names I've liked are Virginia Woof (call name Ginny) and Wagatha Christie. These are at least related to the reading thread.

The book Little Dog Lost on which the Disney show was based is also a sweet story. It is a children's story, but might be upsetting to smaller children.

Hey guys! New to this forum and wanted to say, great info! Thank you for the reading ideas!

My almost 2yr old loves reading with me and LOVES "Oofs" (her word for dog, as her first exposure to a dog was a puppy that barked "oof oof") and I'm always on the lookout for good dog books! Thanks again!

For anyone that has not read "Marley & Me" I highly recommend it. I finally convinced my sister (who actually owns a mostly lab mix, along with her long-haired Chihuahua) to pick it up and read it and my mom called me because my sister was laughing so much it was driving mom nuts. Then a few days later mom got to read the book and called me at 7 in the morning because she hadn't been able to put the book down and go to sleep! There are a LOT of things they did SO wrong as first time dog owners... but there is a lot they did right also.... and the way he writes is absolutely hillarious. Make sure you are somewhere that you won't get embarrased by laughing histerically out-loud when you read it. Yes... it will make you cry at the end, but it is a terrific tale of a dogs life.

Sounds like I need to go pick up "Puppy Kisses" next. Thanks for the recommended reading list!

I ordered the book "The Corageous Corgi" from Amazon - It was actually signed by the author. A great little read.

I also read Marley and me - another great book...

Here a recomendation...

From Bagdad, With Love.. It's about a Marine Corp Lt. Col. who finds a puppy during the Battle of Fallujah. It's a story of the war and his battle to bring the dog back to the US. A very moving book...

Again another quick read....
