Falling leaves and crunching Corgis - 10-10-2006, 12:05 PM

I took a long weekend to visit a friend in PA and when I got home last night, the trees around my yard are in full color and even starting to fall.

It was a gorgeous night so I sat on the front porch and let Tucker and Lulu play outside pretty late. It got so dark I couldn't see them but could sure hear them running around and chasing each other in the leaves.

That Lulu sure is fast! She pastes her ears to her head and she is like a rocket. Tuck chases her for all he's worth and just can't catch her anymore.

They had a blast rolling around in the leaves. Can't wait to break out the rake. Tucker thinks rakes are eveil and must be stopped.

It was Canadian Thanksgiving this past weekend and we drove out to a smaller city to visit and stay overnight with friends on Sunday. It was pretty much peak leaf colour changing here too. There is a maple and oak lined gorge along the way and the colours were spectacular.

We don't have a yard of our own to rake, but the fancy house people up the road all rake their leaves in huge piles by the side of the road and then the city sends a big vacuum truck to suck them all up. Rupe loves running in their piles and messing them up - we'll have to see what Miss Jem thinks about them.

It sounds as if Tucker is really enjoying Lulu - Rupe and Jem play the same way. She certainly is getting him off his duff and moving around!

Dogs really enjoy the leaves. Imagine the snow that they'll get to play with. Cold for us - fun for them.

Susan: How come Lulu is so much faster than Tucker? is it because she's lighter in weight or something?

I know Milo is really fast too but I can't compare so far if he's faster in running than other dogs. Even though corgis got short legs, they can sure as heck run fast. Milo runs faster than me!

Lulu is growing up! Tuck used to be faster because he was older but she is growing and getting stronger.

I'm not sure why she is faster. He weighs just under 24 lbs and Miss Lulu weighs in around 15 lbs. I think she may try harder!

It's youthful exuberance! Jemma can lap Rupert - but again, she's almost 1/2 his size!

Over 100 metres, I'd pick a fit Corgi to beat most humans.
I was a track sprinter and the Corgis I had during my competitive years were all faster than me over distances up to 200 metres. When I went grass track training - four to five times a week, my Corgis would come with me and two of them use to delight in beating me when I did repetition work between 50 metres and 150 metrres.

Please post some photos of your corgis in the fall leaves. I live in southern California and there is very little fall color here. I'd love to see your photos. One of my dream vacations is to see the colonial states in the fall. ~shelly

We are starting to lose our leaves here in upstate NY. I think this weekend will be the last. But NJ and PA were beautiful coming home on Monday. I will take some photos this weekend of my two but here are some from last year.

There is a wonderful hike (about a mioe uphill) near my house. It's worth it because the view out over the lake is wonderful this time of year.

I am in the same spot as Shelly - we don't have much of a winter here in Houston, Texas! No beautiful fall colors and piles of leaves. And also, no snow. (maybe 1/2 inch every 10 years!!)

I would love to see some fall Corgi pics.
